Thanks for all the info guys. Just bumped a dock. I feel a little bit ashamed, but I think I'll be ok. lol
skyviper73, notezbngrn71, DrFlush and 1 other person Thank this. -
Ashamed? You are the man! Plus it's better to ask then have to constantly think about it going down the road.
Btw, you can't quit. -
There is no set take home man. Think of it like this.
At avg week 2400 miles @ .32 per mile that 768$. Then you have taxes, 10$ security deposit, 1$ prepass. Maybe school if you went through school.
So under those figures no. But I'm not going to say it isn't possible on some weeks. Plus when you take hometime that if your 14/3 that's 3 days of no money made or 7/7,14/7, that's a full week of no money made.
It all varies on how you run and where you at according to freight zones. You might one day go up into Canada and be stuck for 2 days waiting for a load or even that can happen anywhere.
Not to discourage you but some weeks suck, and some weeks are amazing. Nothing can be steady it seems.DrtyDiesel and Galhad Thank this. -
You should be ashamed, gave up the skateboard for a box.

with the trailer or with your headlights?DrtyDiesel and Treefork Thank this.

No, 6-700 is more realisticGalhad and DrtyDiesel Thank this.

If my hero Treefork is pulling a box, then so will I, start my new gig in two weeks, gonna miss the flats but not gonna miss not being home every night.

After your benefits, taxes, ect. are taken out you will probably see $500 - $600 take home per week. When I started driving and wasn't making the mileage pay I'm making now and I was still learning the job, That's about what I was making. It also depends on how often you go home. With a family, like I have and you have, I would say you would probably want to get home at least every other weekend. That's about 11 - 14 days lout and 3 days home. If you don't do that, you will REALLY MISS your munchkins. That is still the hardest part for me. "Daddy, when are you coming home?" I hear that after only being on the road a few days. If you run like that, you will see a paycheck $700 - $775 one week and the next one will be $450 - $550. That's with going home enough to see your family. If you decide to be a road warrior, you can see more of the bigger paychecks, but then your hours get run down and you get a bunch of shorter trips where you burn a bunch of time loading and unloading. Just have reasonable expectations and a good financial plan with the family. The pay gets better as you get experience and learn how to "push" your loads and get the most out of your 70 hours.Galhad Thanks this.
