Got all of it but missed the times on the bills. The process seems a little too complicated to me, but then again, so do a lot of things here.
I use my reference guide all the time. It is getting pretty dog eared in a lot of sections and it is a very handy guide. The phone numbers of my two trainers get used often as well.

I'm the guy from Hammond, LA that was in MO Family Man's truck for training evolution II. My very first full week (7 days) out of the house, I logged just over 3000 miles. The reason for this is probably that I am participating in Roehl's honor program for veterans. This program pays a salary, but no bonuses. Roehl can run the dog out of me, and it's cheap for them. On the other hand, since I don't qualify for any bonuses, I will idle the truck even if I'm just a little uncomfortable.

I have looked at alot of companies. by and large I have heard good attitudes about Roehl. I feel like attitude is everything. Life is 10% what happens and 90% how I respond. I'm 48, starting a new career. from the time I started my CDL training at Lincoln Land College. Got my CDL.Aug. 14th My wife was hospitalized with cancer and passed away. Aug. 30 I did not even call my recruiter. I emailed her and explained all this about 2 weeks after. 2 hrs after I emailed Roehl and 4 other companies what I was going through. My recruiter at Roehl called me back. Offered condolences. And told me to take "my time. I would have a Job whenever I was ready. Just let her know". Very very respectful. I live in Kansas City and initially chose 7/7 because of the circumstances and asked if that would be ok initally, and if I decided to go 7/3 7/4 or national would that be possible. "NO problem" was the reply. I have come to Marshfield, paid rental car here. going home after orientation fri rental paid there. reimbursments. & set up my evolution 1 training. I will say this. I dont' want to run illegal and want a safe company. In the long run, it pays off!! I was in business for myself for 10 years and found. Some days are good some are bad. I am impressed so far. especailly about. running legal. and safety. after all its MY CDL. I was up front with them and everyone else i talked to and told them exactly that. I will not compromise my integrity and honesty for nobody period. It seems to me this company will practice what they preach. We'll see. So if any other Roehl drivers out there. give me a holler. keep me posted. But I will warn you. Positive attitude goes a long way. I've been the othr way and it just makes you and everyone around you miserable. Watch how you are treated. when you maintain a positive attitude. especially if there are any guys my age out there that can giv a helpful hint it will come back to you. One thing I can say is in orientation. You get alot of info. But I just take it as one day at a time. learn something new very day. I cant cram all this in my 48 yr old brain all at once. Good luck and god bless.

Welcome to the team. I am sure with your attitude you will get along great here. Also sorry for your loss.
Roehl does mean what they say aboyt running legal and safty. I have been here a while a never has that been an issue. I am starting my 6 day out today, have 2500 in and 500 or so to get home for weekend and i run 100% legal and have hours left so its possible to run legal and get good miles. It dont always happen that way, lol.
By the way, im on my own also, i got one of the sprint aircards where you can be online about anywhere. It is well worth it for me. I am in touch with my kids a lot now.
Well, good luck and have fun. -
Hey guys, I have a question for you. I am looking for a team driver company, and having drove for Roehl for a few years ending in 2001, I am partial to coming back to them. Do they still make you run a certain route, (forced routing) and put X amount of fuel on at X stop? I was in the test group for that, and that is one thing I don't want to have to do. I left to go into the USMC, and am trying to see what is going on the trucking world. I didn't hear if they actually adopted that or not. I was in 1863and 2639 on the flatbed side 8 years ago.

Macmarlin good to see they are keeping you busy. I didn't realize that honors didn't pay bonus money. Still it's like you said you got a two year test drive.
-
They give you routing but nothing is ever said if you take something diffferent as long as your not way out of route or something. They do give you fueling locations and if for some reason you cant use it you hace to call your dsr. They do enforce this. I only had a problem with this one time. Usually the stops are fillups,

Yep, a two year test drive, getting the kind of miles that everyone would switch companies for. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of confidence that the miles will continue beyond the two year Honors program. I still think it's a good choice for anyone who qualifies for it. You don't have to sweat how many miles you're driving, and you really get to see what it's like to run one load after another. I start expecting my next preplan about 50 miles from my consignee...sure enough, the next preplan will arrive before I do. On the other hand, it probably sets you up for some unrealistic expectations once the program is over.

Small world. I grew up in Livingston Parish. I tried to respond to your PM, but I don't have enough posts yet (need 50). I also tried to post my email address, but can't do that either. You can PM me a email address, or phone number if you like. I'm heading out this afternoon. 11/05

In my time with Roehl,I never had an unrealastic expectation.I always had plenty of time to get to the consingnee. I was usually dispatched within 1/2 hr. after unloading. A couple of times I picked up a load that I didnt feel I could make on time. No problem they would have me relay it at a drop yard,or switch loads with a team. They do not want you to run unsafe and will do everything possible to accomidate you on that type of situation. I have never said that Roehl is the perfect company, but my honest feeling is,If you cant drive for Roehl you cant drive for any company. After all driving is a job.And once you learn the ropes it aint all that hard. If you are just starting out and having a hard time, just roll with the punches and things will get easier,no matter who you are driving for. Well almost anybody, course I would not include Swift in that statement.
