Anytime a log is edited it automatically flags for audit. No one can change it without it recording who changed it. They can't make any changes and go undetected.

The driver will know when his logs are edited so it's on him to make a common sense decision to refuse to do something he shouldn't.
People are thinking way to much into this. It's not that dramatic. -

Been on the Elog for 2 years. Can't tell you how many times I have had to park out in the middle of nowhere because my 14 was up. Held up at the shipper? to bad, the clock keeps on ticking. Try being in the middle of Los angeles and your 14 is about up. What do you do? you take an extra dose of blood pressure pills. Now, if your with a company that gives you two days to go 500 miles you will love Elogs.

Hmmm....lots to ponder. I always did and do use paper logs. My friend worked for a company who did elogs. It limited him totally. He hated it. He lost time at shipper/receivers, shops, and so on. It took away lot of the freedom of the drive. Freedom of sleeping when he wanted, freedom of starting the log day when he wanted and finishing the log day when he wanted. Maybe its the difference of old school trucking and new school trucking. One driver stated that he had to make better use of his time using elogs, i would imagine so since the freedom of the run was no longer in his control but the control of the elog. Less stress? Seems like being under the control of the elog instead of yourself would be stressful to me. More money? poppycock! Dispatchers and planners being held accountable? Horse hockey! Drivers always have and always will be the one who are held accountable. Anyway, thats my opinion...I could be wrong. Good luck!

What do you do?
It's called a trip plan. Before you accept any load, you NEED to make sure you have the HOS to legally run it. If you don't have the hours, don't accept the load. I also find it hard to believe you didn't even have the time to drive to TA. Running out of hours like that is directly linked to poor trip planning. FWIW, if the shipper doesn't allow truck parking then you take the log violation and find somewhere to park.Last edited: Jul 12, 2012
