when i did my orientation with crete, it was boooorrrrring. first off was the drug test performed at the terminal and sealed with your signature, then off to take the workwell physical, did payroll paperwork, and had to watch some videos on safety and hazmat and defensive driving then take a bs written test. once the drug test comes back, they will call you and tell you when your trainer will be there to pick you up and get you rolling.

if you smoke, you better be up front and stand firm to get you a trainer that smokes or one who does not mind a smoker. the first one i had was a former smoker and was a total jerk about giving me smoke breaks. that lasted all of a week. couldnt deal with him. the next guy was great. i still talk to him this day, more than 2 years later.

Good luck!! Don't let the fear/anxiety overwhelm you. I'm confident you'll be just fine.

You will do fine. Think this is an "experiment", you may like it, you may not.... It may take at least 6 months for your to know if this is really for you. In the meantime, try to take it easy. Please don't rush. I would write much more but you are leaving... So, all I will tell right now is wish you all the best, good luck and have faith that everything will be ok. And one more thing, your fears may be 1000 times bigger than what reality really is. Take one step at a time, try to avoid thoughts that will make you even more anxious.... Let time show you the reality. And you may find out that you were anxious for nothing.... Don't let your anxious mind play tricks on you. Have faith, things will be ok one way or another.

I'm sure just like any other job. It's the first day jitters. When you meet your trainer. Just keep in mind. Their another human being that has already experienced all that you are about to learn about. It is their job under all circumstances to be polite an professional as possibly can be. Under the circumstances. Your trying to be the same is going to contribute to that experience. Be prepared to NOT rush into doing anything. Pay close attention to every detail. Your instructor is there to guide you. Not to be a dictator. If you begin to feel overwhelmed, over stressed, uncomfortable for any reasonable reasons. Communicate it with your trainer. For the duration of this training. You will continue to go through not only lifestyle changes. Yet some physical and emotional ones as well. Truckin' ain't easy. But if you still out long enough. It'll get in your blood. It also never hurts to go 5-10 mph slower than the traffic around ya.

Well I made it here. The hotel office didn't have a room for me so I had to give the lady at the front desk my information.. Just made the anxiety so much worse. :-(

It's normal to be nervous. I remember when I first got a ticket to get to orientation, I was so nervous that something would go wrong that I called Greyhound 4 times to reconfirm I had the right times, and stuff. Once I got to orientation, I was waiting for the moment to come where they told me that they couldn't hire me. Once I received my fuel card, and knew I was officially hired, I started worrying about my trainer, and training in general. My point, it's ok to be nervous. I was nervous, and worried throughout the whole process, and it all worked out.

When I met my trainer, and found out that we were headed to PA, I was hella excited. The sense of adventure quickly turned into what it really is, a job. Ask your trainer questions. A bunch of questions. Take notes, and make sure to show your interest in learning, and it'll go a long ways in showing your trainer that you want to excel. Also try and meet a few people that have some experience that you can call with questions once you complete training.

In a few months, you'll be finished with the whole orientation, and training process and in your own truck. Then you'll have another list of stuff to be nervous about. The only way to get confidence in this business is through experience.

Well it happened. i got down to the hotel (as i had posted earlier) and then I got a call from my aunt telling me that I need to come home. My father is in the Intensive Care Unit and the docs said he doesn't have long... A nervous feeling (from being at orientation) turned into a straight Panic Attack. I drove all the way back to Nashville (169 miles) and here I sit. I called Crete and basically explained what had happened. They're such an awesome company. They told me that everything is okay, and to take as much time as I need. ####, what a situation.. About to go back to the hospital to sit with my dad. Just wanted to update everyone as to what's going on.
