Looking at going to Joplin in August. Just wandering how much loading and unloading the otr guys/gals do. I read that if you attend their cdl school, that you do alot of dock work and forklift stuff prior to getting in a truck.
I understand that when you come in with a CDL that training is different, just curious about how much ramping will be done by the drivers.
How much loading/unloading for conway tl?

Con-Way Truckload is not the same as Con-Way Freight. Freight is the part you are thinking of with the unloading and loading and dockwork all the time. You never have to work the dock in Truckload, and almost no one will let you get on a forklift. I have been at truckload for over 4 years and have unloaded maybe less then 10 times, mostly because I just wanted to help. At most places you just back the truck into a dock and never have to get on the dock.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. 4 years? I take it that you are pretty happy working for Conway? They look like they are a good company especially for someone coming in. Sounds like their training is better than most. I haven't seen the usual horror stories about bad finishers. Thanks for your help.

For a Newbie, I truely think they are the best!! You wont get treated better anywhere else I am certain of it. I wish I would have started here. Good Luck!
elviaje26, backster and Civilservant Thank this. -
Thanks. They are on the top of our list. My wife will be riding along with me, so we have been studying alot of companies. This company really looks good to us. We really don't want to hop around from company to company.
