Hay guys, I'm Keith and am thinking about becoming a Truck Driver. I am currently a SSG in the Army, and deployed to Afghanistan. I have a slight color vision problem but it has never hindered my work as an MP. I have 11 months tp prepair for the change and would like to know how to begin. I will have about 2 months leave built up before I ETS, I have a Secret Clearance, and a pretty good backround to include 5 deployments. If you can spare some time and let me know the real deal, i will make sure its not wasted. Thanks guys

Welcome to TTR and thank you for your service Keith!

What makes you want to be a truck driver? You don't want to stay in the same field? You can get in on the other end, DOT truck enforcement and still have a home life.

I think you'll be okay as far as the vision goes. You'll learn a lot of good info here as far as researching a company out and other trucking info. You can get an early start by downloading a copy of your state's CDL manual found on your states DL website.

Here's the DOT's website with all the regulations.

I wanted to a truck driver before I joined the military. Thank you very much for the information, I will be sure to look it up when I get a chance. Things have been bad here the last week, so my down time is minimal. I will also look into the DOS enforcement, might be a nice change of pace. Any other advice on Schools and Companys? Thanks
