I don't want to repeat but maybe you need to hear it. If smoking is not your concern then good food shouldn't be either. I'm sorry to hear about your brother and it's very sad but there are a few of us that have gone through as much and some more pain than what you are going through. The best remembrance you can give your brother is to stop smoking NOW and get healthy.
Going to be OTD, but worried about my health

hey Leannamarie, Sarge, and Gashuler, i have a date set to quite smoking, it have decided that in mach will be my quite date, march 18, my b-day, my brother was a smoker, for a long time, about 5 years ago he quite on his b-day, and he said it was the best gift he had ever recieved, no campaison he said, he always told that if and when i do quite it should be on my b-day, thats only 4 months, as stated by Leannamarie, you frinds set a date, thats exactly what im doing, and also Sarge i no that i am young, and i no dang well that people have been through more then me, however, it was the closes family member to me that has ever passed on, so to me,and only for me, its the greatest loss ever, thanks
i understand that trucking will be my " wife " opps, i mean life, and thats a chance i want to take, iv had a girl frind for the past 4 years, she's has pushed me to do this, she thinks that it would be great, she is behind me 150%, and even said that if i get to take her on a rid-along, which i no a lot of comp do, she would even concider doing it herself, depending how it went, soo we shall see
so, as far as eating.... so far most everyone has agreed on freash food, or food made from home, nothing fried or fast food, i do like my fruits, and freash food, and fish, i dont do candy, or fast food to begin with, but fri-food i do, and i am more then willing to give them up for the sake of my health
everyone, thanks for the replys and concerns, i seriously appriciate every bit of this

Well,, that's a very positive post, I think you have a definate plan in mind and have gone so far as to put it in writing, here in this forum.
So a hearty pre-congratulations to all of your plans and Ihope they all come true for you...with the right attitude,,,it will...
Print this post out and put it in your logbook in case you forget, LOL.
See you out there,
Sarge -
Sarge, pretty funny that you said that about printing it out, i was at school today, and my teacher said to make goals, what ever they are, no matter how great or how stupid, a goal is a goal, and he said that when we get trucking to write on a pice of paper and stick it in where that date would come up.. that must be the thing to do since that 2x in one day haha
thanks again to everyone. -
Yo will learn about those kinds of things when you get out there. The log book is a good place to put things like that as you will be opening that thing often, I hope. Best of luck with all your endeavors.

I have to agree that a fridge is the best thing you can do for yourself. Keeping fresh food, fruits, juices not pop, milk. Get yourself a toaster oven or something.(I hate microwave, but they are better than nothing)
Budget well for that food becuase it will always seem cheaper to just buy a burger. Take the time to run into a grocery store every once in awhile to restock, truck stop fresh food is really expensive. My husband loved driving longhaul for the road but hated the food. Take advantage of the rare 'homecooked' meals, there are a few truckstops still out there that offer such a thing.
Its good to do this when your young before you settle down with a family, then it doesn't matter if the raod is your life or your wife.
Also to stay healthy stretch everyday!!!!! I know it seems stupid but driving gives you really bad posture which contributes to the belly and bad circulation. My husband complains alot about back aches and shoulder pains.
Have fun, be safe, keep your goal! -
Get one of those portable bathroom scales and carry it with you on the truck. I gained probably 20 pounds at my first driving job, and I worked there only 4 months. If I would have had a scale, I would have watched my weight closer.
Don't let yourself gain weight. If it starts creeping up, change your habits. Truck driving is a job that'll add pounds quick. -
I understand the smoking thing. it is VERY!!!!!! hard. The water thing is a good idea. i lost alot of weight drinking water. i could not stand it at first and then it became a habit. i would find myself drinking water when i was not even thirsty. just try to eat things that are healthy. salad, fruits, chicken [not fried] lol!! Once you get to eating that way, you will be amazed at the energy you will have. best of luck to you. cat 500

Choose a company where you actually have to WORK for a living. Not that driving in and of itself isn't work, but I'm talking about look into pulling a flatbed or some kind of open trailer and actually work for your living.
Lumping freight is NOT what I'm talking about either.
One of the best things I did for my health was to get a job where I was forced to get out of the truck and work before I got back behind the wheel.
If I step on any toes here, you guys and gals have my apology in advance, but some of the most out of shape drivers I've seen are pulling a van or reefer. Been there, done that...and I was getting fat and out of shape.
Since I chose a driving job that required outside the truck work like carhaul and after that equipment moving, my health has improved.
