I disagree. I have declined home time because rates to and from home were too low. I would rather bounce empty back home than waste a whole day getting loaded and unloaded just so that I can work for free. That costs more in the long run.

Then its leaving the house, then its to get in a different area and then its to drop the truck off at the bank.
If you don't stand for something then you'll fall for anything.HeWhoMustNotBeNamed, FREEBRD, last 1 and 3 others Thank this. -
whats the difference going home or someplace else.still cost the same to run truck.running for fuel is wrong always has been.if i have to loose money i will run empty before i haul something for nothing.im not doing people favors, running for fuel you are.
aiwiron, HeWhoMustNotBeNamed and last 1 Thank this. -
I haven't done over the road for over 20 years, but I'm still trucking, and I see there's a lot of the same going on as it was back then.
Everytime you take a cheap load to get out of an area to a better paying zone, you are penalizing your fellow truckers from that area, comes to mind the northeastern states, Los Angeles, south Florida, or all Florida since it is a penninsula, and all mayor metro areas, so think about it next time you use that excuse, like it was said already, that load must of time will get as or more involve as the good paying load and some times will cost you money. -
If you can't afford to deadhead home when you want to get home (and didn't get yourself nearby enough to make it a shorter trip), then you're not making enough on your loads to really be out there on your own.
I've deadheaded from Long Island to Indiana because I couldn't find anything worthwhile. Sure, My average for all miles (loaded and empty), was lower than I like, but I'm not about to pull crap in my trailer for fuel money. What about my truck maintenance money? What about my time to drive it? What about my risk to my insurance if there's a claim?
Why?
Just deadhead. Plus, you'll get much better MPG hauling nothing than you will saddled down with cheap freight.last 1, gerardo1961 and windsmith Thank this. -
Maybe if we all stuck together.........
HA! Just kidding, Im surprised I was the first to say that.
Let me know when you guys get this cheap freight thing worked out, I need some help on the meaning of life when you get a minute.RizenPhoenix Thanks this. -
No disrespect but this is a dummy move. Now if everyone hauled cheap going home which lane will you find good paying loads. Now what if everyone started hauling cheap out os salt lake so they could get home, then I guess you will turn into a cheap hauler all the around. Its drivers like that that keep rates low. Drivers blame it on brokers but its all on the drivers

That"s one of the stupidest statements in trucking. I don't know about you but I don't work for free.
Mr. PlumCrazy, VisionLogistics, Sly Fox and 1 other person Thank this. -
Thats a fight have have with o/o's every week in my area. it pays for fuel to go back. If they figured in there time loading unloading extra miles to get the load and the less mpg loaded they would make out better just deadheading out. But to many have the thinking a load on the truck is better than none which is so far from the truth.
truckgopher Thanks this. -
Heck I wish I could DH home at times but I wont take cheap freight . I usually let the bottom feeder companies brokerage side grab the crap then check out what there the next day or call one of my brokers and see what they have within a 75 to 150 mile radius. But I try to do it so one load delivers in the same area as my pick up to try to keep the overhead down if at all possible. Same with produce picks and drops
SHC and truckgopher Thank this.
