Regarding the savings, you're also getting a check from our Uncle Sam every month in return for prior service as well, no?

You don't need 8 years experience to work for this company. 12 months will do it. We have trucks that are coming into Springfield MO all the time. Matter of fact, one of our drivers DOES live in Springfield.

But like you said, Think outside the box. Drive around the local area and see who's in town.

Then stop in and talk to them. Don't ask if they are hiring. Ask if you can drive one of their trucks full time. Seems silly to word it that way, but then you are presenting yourself as a capable body, not looking for a hand-out.

Being from Troy did you look at Witte? I know you could make some decent money a few years ago but don't know how it is now. I do know you are home every weekend though. Check them out and they did have a school going, too.

    remember the keyword is "PREHIRED"
apply to them all doesnt mean you have to accept
from any of them After you start driving you will slowly learn what
you really want from trucking then can start a new search

I started with roehl. They were fair to me. They have the home time fleets, 14-7, 7-4/7-3, and 7-7, plus they usually had me home on time. They have a school or will pay back your tuition. I worked out of the Kansas city yard for a year to get experience then got a job pulling tanks.

Almost every job I see posted for hire says you have to have at least 1 yr OTR experience. I know I have to pay my dues, so I'm looking for the "best" a newbie could get...ha.
Everyone I have talked to who has gone to Westwind CDL in Cuba, MO all gave them a "10". So with all the great responses I have gotten here I want to train at Westwind, get my 1 yr OTR out of the way and then hopefully get a job with a trucking company where I can stay at.

God bless all you truckers and thanks again for all your great advice. :biggrin_2556:

Who do you pull tanks for NB? I just landed a job pulling oversize LPG tanks out of Raytown, MO. I have been working for KDOT for the last year, have zero tractor trailer exp and even our dumptrucks at KDOT were autoshift. So a Newb can land a decent OTR job with no experience, just need to sell yourself. I'm out 10 and home for 4 and get a straight $18.00 an hour regardless of miles driven. I get paid from the time I start my Pre-trip to the time I shut down for the night. If I'm waiting on a load, I still get paid, etc... Full benefits. They're out there, just sell yourself as the guy they need.

I just finished CDL training at Westwind CDL Training Center in Cuba, MO. They were short 1 trainer, but other than that, I would go there again.

I am trying to get into Roehl, they are checking my app info and I have to call them back this coming Wednesday.
