last year i went to work for optimum logistics in indianapolis as a temp driver. the office staff was great, and i went to work on my old dot physical, with the understanding i would get a new physical soon. no problem. started with their customer in lafayette in. running auto parts working every day without issue. i got along well with optimum's customer, the shippers and receivers, and enjoyed the job. the lady (judy) at optimum, was great.
then i went for the updated d.o.t. physical.
i was sent to the methodist occupation clinic on the west side of indy, and when the time came, was taken to the cubicle for examination. i was told to remove ALL my clothing and put on a hospital gown and wait. in 30 years, I HAVE NEVER been forced to completely strip for a d.o.t. physical, and protested to the nurse, who told me "that's the way the doctor likes it". i was NOT happy, but did it anyway. when the doc gets in, he sits himself down on a stool, has me lift the gown, and i thought he was going to bury his face in my crotch. what followed was the longest lasting hernia check on record, with me staring down on this creeps ear ring. i asked him if everything "smelled alright" and the doc looked up at me and could no doubt tell i was mad. that was the end of the exam.
the doc then examined my record and found i had a cardiac event 5 years prior and asked if i had a stress test (i did), but he insisted i have yet another. those things cost alot of money i didn't have. the doc tells me that methodist offers stress tests (how ironic, since the same hospital operated the clinic), and informed the doc i had my own cardiologist whom i trusted and was one of the best in indiana, and that doctor gave me cardiac clearance. i was still pretty mad at the way i had been treated, and i'm sure the doctor knew it. he tells me he's giving me a 30 day extention on my physical to get this test he's insisting on.
i go to my family doctor, get another d.o.t. physical, passed with flying colors, and also get a letter from my cardiologist (at the indianapolis heart hospital) once again giving me cardiac clearance. i returned to work driving on the 30 day extention without issue. 30 days later i return to the company clinic, and the same pervert fails me.
the staff at the indy office of optimum is probably the most driver friendly bunch in the industry, and the lady (judy) who i delt with is great. the problem lies with their corporate types who refused to accept the physical from my own doctor, and let me go based on the methodist perverts refusal. here's the kicker. i know a nurse who works for the same hospital, and when i told her what happened, she called the doctor by name, and told me i should have "been nicer and maybe shook it a bit". yeah, she was joking, but i knew what she meant.
my wife wants to hire a lawyer, but, i honestly don't want to go that route. (so far).
any of you guys and gals in indy need to watch out for this so-called doctor.......... (well, guys anyway) as, in my opinion, this entire situation was uncalled for, extremely unprofessional, and i feel like i was victimized by the clinic, and the corporate office by not being given better options. again, all of this is my opinion, but if i were you, i would excersize some caution.
