These solos are not running hard IMHO.I am solo and run much more than that... Solo drivers in the GP account for instance, run much more too. But anyway, I hope your codriver comes back soon. July is a slow month??? I thought it was good... Jan and Feb are slow months.

Thinking about training? Boy, you are brave! I would say that to Dennis all the time.
You have to have some serious nerves of steel. I could not do it!
Saw a Covenant truck pulling Estes doubles today. We were behind him for some time.
That would be something to shoot for. We have all our endorsements too,
but Ron doesn't seem too interested in pulling doubles.
Well, we sure hope your codriver gets back soon. We are waiting on Breakdown to send someone to look at our truck. For some reason, the tanks are not building air pressure, just losing it.
We checked everything we could and there was no logical reason we could see, so we wait.

Training? Must have been a moment of weakness...haha... No but really, the pay is good and it would be nice to try and make a difference. Then again, my last codriver wasnt too interested in becoming better -- and that is an attitude that would just wear you down...
Have a short hop tomorrow for a live unload appointment in the am -- then take a much needed 34 (after finding parking I will probably only have ~1 hour left on my 70!). Fortunately I'll be within an hour of my folks so I should be able to con them into a visit...
Week 3 Solo mileage will probably be 3,300 -- although it is theoretically possible I'll get a miraculous 650 mile run on the 4th of july for a nice round 4000 (hey, a guy can hope!)
PS Never knew soft drink syrup was so hazardous lol. Corrosive and flammable the placards say... Kind of feel silly stopping at every railroad track! -
Whew! I certainly would not do it. Too dangerous!
I told Dennis (our trainer) just how brave he was for doing it.
But I must say, he told us about some of THOSE attitudes.
He just had them taken right off the truck and sent them home
if they refused to listen to Safety directions.
He yelled at me on a couple of occassions...and RIGHTfully so!
We learned to drive on flatland Florida, so I rolled back a couple times on the hills. I snapped right into shape on that one!
Oh that is funny! Constantly telling my husband that stuff with corrode your stomach lining!

Week 4 solo miles: 90
Started off the week with a fresh 70, but sat on the boards 2 days waiting for a load. Wasn't worried because I was assigned a nice 2600 mile run going into day 3... Unfortunately, the preloaded trailer was a basket-case and between roadside & in shop repairs I waited 14 hours for the trailer to be roadworthy. During that time I gave the tractor a thorough inspection and discovered coolant dripping from the radiator (note to self: check truck over when both hot & cold -- this leak was only when hot). You may recall I had complained to the flagstaff freightliner about increasing coolant consumption during my breakdown 2 months ago -- they replied "thats normal for a Detroit." Long story short, load was repowered & the tractor spent the next 3 days in the shop getting a new radiator & coolant pipeelbow. Day 7 was also spent on the boards...
Currently on a 2400 mile run, but had to take on a temp team partner (dispatch asked that I help him rendezvous with his perm codriver across the country). Nice guy, but even with 3 months experience he's still quite hard on the clutch. Hope we meet up with his codriver before my tractor requires more shop time... -
Don't know... but it seems to me that you end up becoming a trainer at Covenant.

Dagnabbit double yellow! You have had a run of that crazy black cloud hovering overhead!! Sure do hope after this, hopefully the truck will run smooth and you can keep a steady pace. And I know you are anxiously awaiting your old team partner! Sure hope he gets back soon, so you can get back rolling hard during the good freight months.
Boy, with the inevitability of mechanical breakdowns and human error, it is a thing that one might note strongly in their mind when pondering this line of work. It requires the ability to adjust quickly on the many changes that come about daily. There are so many enlightening things that this forum can provide to an individual when thinking about making the big move into OTR.
Reading your posts, Ron and I both see your determination and the fact that you do embrace every aspect of your job.
For me? I love every challenging moment. It is in my blood.
And to think, last year this time? I didn't even know what a Fifth wheel was.

Clarification on the Sun pass: they stopped giving them out to just anyone -- you now have to live in Florida or have a dedicated account servicing Florida. You can still get an OK pass...
Also met Rocks today -- great gal!Rocks Thanks this. -
Hey Double Yellow, it was great to meet you too!
What a pleasure. You are indeed a very nice gentleman.

I knew it!! Birds of a feather...I say.
double yellow Thanks this.
