I am in the same class with wingnut and roadrunner. This morning, the class ahead of us graduated, new comers showed up, and we became the senior class. We were on the road by 8am heading to the "race track". Which is just a going down a sevice road for about 10 miles and then make a u turn. We were learning how to upshift, downshift and double clutch the truck. Tomorrw we go back out a work on turns.

    @SpartyOn

You can not carry any kind of firearm in a commercial vehicle. It has nothing to due with company regs. It is a federal thing.

    Everett Thanks this.

Hey there Macho I think that you are mistaken. It has to do with state laws. If you can conceal carry in that state, you are fine. It would be a company issue if the state laws says yes.

Hey all I put my application in today for school. I hope that everything goes well and I can start in Tx by the first of august. My recruiter is Mrs. Adams anyone know her? Hope to see some of you all there.

SPARTYON it is best for you to first start with the company and see if it is ok for you to carry. If it is ok then, I would make sure what states are ok to carry in as well. You don't want to get into a felony with a firearm and ruin your carrier and ability to carry.

Title 18 Setcion 926(a). The peacable journey law.
    TITLE 18-CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE
    PART I-CRIMES
    CHAPTER 44-FIREARMS
Sec. 926A. Interstate transportation of firearms
Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or
regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person
who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting,
shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a
firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully
possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the
firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being
transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the
passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle:
    Provided, That in
the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver's
compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked
container other than the glove compartment or console.

I would count the sleeper berth as part of the passenger compartment, but that is how I see it. Either way, it is against FFE's policy for their drivers to carry a firearm in the truck. Even if you are O/O. That is according to the instructors here at the school.

once you cross state lines with a firearm is when it turns into a federal offense. i,m sure that its most all carriers policy not to carry a gun.

Regardless of state or federal laws FFE does not allow any firearms on there trucks. There was a retired police officer in my class at the academy and he asked and was told no way will FFe allow you to carry a firearm.

MOST companies will not allow you a firearm in THEIR TRUCK.

Notwithstanding that - if you have a CARRY PERMIT - you may carry concealed in your home state, and states that have reciprocity with your home states CWP license. In states without reciprocity - state/local regs apply to CMV's, the same as personal conveyances.

THERE IS NO FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITING THE CARRY OF A FIREARM in a CMV.

The Peaceable Journey Law (aka "Interstate Compact") is routinely IGNORED by NJ, NY, CT, MD and ESPECIALLY MA, and a number of other states. Even unloaded, in a locked case, inaccessible to the passenger compartment - will get you a ride in handcuffs if you get caught.

I carry (CMV or otherwise) where I am LEGAL TO CARRY - and keep a trigger locked/slide locked/in a locked case with ammo separated, in the truck/toolbox/under the sleeper bunk.

As a company driver - I would "likely" follow company policy (or risk termination if caught - not like they search your truck on a regular basis), and as an O/O in my OWN TRUCK (not a company lease/purchase, which is really no more than a RENTAL) I would carry REGARDLESS.

CONCEALED IS CONCEALED - if you "advertise" that you're carrying, you deserve your penalty. Most shippers & receivers take a "dim view" on armed truckers also - lock it in the cab when you step out.

I carry a "pushbutton knife" (aka: switchblade) also. Legal in Fl & Ga (my most traveled states) - ILLEGAL to cross state lines with (fed, not state law). Crossing state lines with an otherwise-legal-to-posess firearm is NOT A FEDERAL OFFENSE. I frequently fly with a firearm in checked baggage also - as long as I'm "legal to carry" at my destination.

    http://ataw.wordpress.com/2009/01/07/ataw-exclusive-firearms-and-big-trucks---myth...-busted/

Again - there are no FMCSA Regs that prohibit a firearm in a CMV, possessed by someone who is LEGALLY PERMITTED OTHERWISE to possess a firearm.
