CFR only calls to identify the "carrier".
A part of me agrees by their definition, that's the driver in direct possession of the actual load.
A part of me states that as a "company driver", I am only an "agent" of the actual carrier who is the name on the side of the truck.
You don't need my DL and a photo copy of it. The "chain of custody" can track it back to me from "shipper" to "carrier" to "consignee" and whomever took possesion of it.
As a "carrier" it would behoove us then to demand the license and a photo copy of the actual dock worker then that is taking the load off of our truck. No documentation, no truck on the dock. Yet this doesn't happen. As drivers, I have seen so many just content to walk up to the security window (wonder why THAT's there?) and simply slide the paper in and get a signed paper back by the monkey on the other side of the window.

There is a Target dc that asks for my social security number every time! I tel them 000-00-0000. Wouldnt give out my drivers license number either.

Hey Otter. You are the first one tomention a passport. If most people in trucking knew how hard it is to get a USPassport & the security associated with it, the CDL License wouldn't enterin to the picture. Not too many drivers walking around with a forged Passport.I used to deliver to Hill AF Base in Utah back in 78 thru 81. Always had the IDready, yes sir no sir & it was never a problem entering or leaving theBase. On the other hand, when you are dealing with the Air Police or MPs, awhole different environment is what you encounter. They take their jobsseriously & act like it. At the time there were 2 separate Fighter Wingsstationed there & Nuclear Weapons stored on Base. On the other hand, pullin to P & G for a load of Dawn Dish Soap & nobody worries about aTerrorist making off with a case of soap.

I stopped handing my license out a while ago. And they sure as hell aren't photocopying it. And you shouldn't let them either. No. Not a anti government they are tracking me spiel. But do you know who at that counter or behind that window? No. With all of this identification theft going on, you can't trust anyone with things that have addresses, numbers or any other info they can use to get into your account.
MNdriver Thanks this. -
I used to hand them a paper copy of my license,
with important info blacked out.

George was right about what?

I had a receiver, Hanson-Mueller (grain elevator) ask for all that info a few weeks ago. Myself and another driver was real apprehensive about providing it, but done so. We then checked with our boss, and was told don't ever do that again. So now all they get is the tractor & trailer license plate numbers, my name, and the office phone number. I'm wondering if the boss had a few words with them, as the next time unloading they didn't push it.

I have a twic card, if anyone wants my information I just hand that to them. Besides any ABC agency good luck pulling any personal information from it.
