I mussed up my back in an MVA in the drivers seat. There's a bar that runs along the bottom of the seatback from side to side. You can screw things up more than just falling from a load.

Crazed try a trailer with a slide kit on it , no more tarping , I've been tarping for 20 years but 2 years ago I bought a trailer and had a slide kit installed , I'll tell ya its one of the best purchases I've ever made!
Crazed and dannythetrucker Thank this. -
Hadn't thought of that, banditt. I'll definitely look into that!

A side kit is a great way to go if you haul a lot of steel that needs to be tarped. A contestoga or curtainside is another way to go, but those are much more expensive than a side kit. I still own a side kit. When I pulled it all the time I rarely had to break it down. You can buy a new kit from about $1,800-3,600, depending on whether you want a plywood or light weight kit. Plywood is less expensive but I prefer it since some shippers won't load a lightweight kit. It isn't a problem with most shippers, regardless of which one you happen to own.

Fell off a load out of Cox Lumber in Ramsewer or however you spell it, dislocated my shoulder and put my back in a brace, as soon as the brace was off, I was on the ball.
As for you, I wouldn't consider Flatbed. Your back gives out at a shipper in their drop lot, you'll be there until another truck or the yarder comes by and gets you help. -
Ask your doctor.
I know guys that can never flatbed again because off their back.
And i know some that need that excercise so their back doesn't hurt.
