If there's someone interested in con-way here there's some useful tips.
I called them and the guy at the HR told me that if I was paid fixed rate let's say a established fare by week or I can't apply because that doesn't count as miles driving..weird but watch it out.
The other thing is that con-way.com will not take you to the application page better try www.true2blue.com
    Hope this info help.
I already submitted also with usxpress but never got an e-mail back, called but nobody answered just leaved a message.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean regarding Con-Way. I have narrowed my choices to Con-Way and USX and have spoke in depth with both.

    USX:
If you call USX you will only get a recording and to leave a message. So I tried the chat feature on the driver section of their website called "Live Chat" and was connected right away. Once I started to chat with the recruiter I asked them for their extension and he gave me a different number to call in that will ask you for the extension number. Give the website "Live Chat" feature a try....it worked for me and probably will for you.

    Con-Way:
I called the main number and told them I was looking to become a driver. I was transferred and a recruiter picked up. I was told that you are paid .26 per mile while driving with your trainer (they call them finishers) after you complete the one week of orientation. You have to drive 10,000 miles with your finisher (used to be 7,500) and then you are assigned a truck of your own and will then be paid .30 per mile not including a .01 per mile quarterly safety bonus...if you qualify. You are also paid .03 per mile for HazMat (which they require) which would give you a grand total of .34 per mile. If you travel to the northeast states which are listed on their website you get an additional .05 per mile. I asked when does that start and stop....I was told that as soon as you cross the state line into or out of determines when the .05 per mile bonus is active.

Just a side note....I have heard that right now that Con-Way is completely out of trucks. There are many who have been waiting at home for a truck for weeks now. They have vacant trucks but there is a reconditioning that is required before it is released to a new driver and they are back logged...obviously.

Well, as to the two big companies (SNI and USX), they're really sounding like apples to apples. Not really hearing/finding a lot of differences between them. I've got some calls to make to a couple of different companies tomorrow. So far, SNI has been the most helpful in regard to info/help.

As for Conway, as I understand it (which may be wrong...), if they don't have loads and you're at a terminal, they'll put you working the dock. Can anyone confirm or disprove this? Personally, that'd be a deal breaker for me.

Really pleased that this thread has taken off, and even better, helped others. Gotten some fantastic pms from it as well.

Hopefully, we'll have decided something next week. Hopefully, I'll be announcing that my wife is a CDL holder next Friday. (I'm not worried, she is.)

Thanks again to all for posting!

You might check closer on conway they have 2 divisions .. 1 is Con-way TL and the onther is Con-way Freight .. The Freight division the dock work might very well be true, But I dont think so with the TL division.. from the way I have read things ..I maybe wrong but thats how I took it ..
    http://www.con-way.com/en/
If you go to Crowder College the to Con-way TL I dont think you would be subject to that..

The only place I have read about that is the Student Driver Program (https://www.con-way.com/en/careers/driver-careers/ltl_driver/student-driver-program/ .. and it appears to be part of the LTL Freight division..

I do have SNI and Gordon Trucking on my list albeit after CW and USX because SNI and Gordon don't accept pets. There is a chance however that I may decide to re-home them both...hard decision..but want to do whats best for them both. If I do then of course SNI and Gordon would be strongly considered. I like Gordon because they have a huge terminal that they built not to long ago about 30 min from my home and they have APU and 1000 watt inverters. One thing I have learned is that everyone has something different that is important to them...some its the money....some its the miles (which is the same as money I guess)....some its about what extra fees the company pays....ect.
For me its all about comfort so big sleepers...APUs....Inverters....fridge....microwave....Sirrus radio....you name it.....I want it. I know I know....come back down to earth...lol. I know I won't get most if not any of these things right away....but by the end of my first year you can bet I will.....along with the biggest flat screen tv I can fit in the sleeper....surround sound....and an Xbox......am I missing something...LOL. Probably....but if it make life easier in my truck and it will fit I will probably will have it. I just need to find away to electrify the outside of my truck so no one steals it all...oh wait...that is a law suit in the making....LOL.

All kidding aside.....it will be my 17" MacBook Pro I just got off Ebay...and I just ordered from Amazon the Blue Parrot B250XT+ Headset.....that will have to get me by in my first year....oh and maybe a 12v cooler if the truck doesn't come with an inverter....although I have heard that some companies will install them if you buy an approved one. If you are wondering why comfort is such a priority for me.....is that I will not have a home for the first year at least. So the truck will be my home and of course the rest of the time I will stay at family and friends homes or at nice hotels all over the country when I have home time to take. Not sure if that makes any sense to anyone...but it does to me. Having no family also helps me pull this off. My best friend has been a driver for 12 years now and says many do what I plan on doing, so I guess its not completely unheard of.

Yes.....you are correct. I have read many post about this dock work....and it applies to Con-Way Freight division and NOT Con-Way Truckload (OTR) division. Here on TTR it is very common to see people mixing up the two divisions when it comes to comments and concerns.
