I can find where you have to have the Company name and the DOT number,

Where is the requirement to have a VIN on the truck displayed as well.? Is it states requiring that?

Yep, Colorado will usually pull you in each year, even if you do have the vin displayed on the side of your truck. They check your cab card to make sure you have them listed. Once they check, you are good to go. You don't need the entire vin number, only the last 8 on the side of the truck. You don't have to put them on the truck, but you will be stopped every time you pass the port of entry.

I thought it was so when you're at the Freightliner parts counter you could just look out the window instead of going back outside to read it off the VIN plate.

I had Colorado do it back in May, they will walk out and check your VIN if it is not on the side of your truck.

It is how CO pulls you up in the system. They say they want to make sure every truck is legal and DOT/Trk # doesn't ensure that.

SOOOOOO, by adding this you just make your life easier.

And while CO does have putting the VIN on the side as a requirement (it is actually a state statute), it has never been challenged in the courts because they have never issued a citation for it.
