I was look at these APUs. Anybody see or have one. AC is 20,000BTU and Heating is 13,500BTUs and they have a CAT motor. They say they use around .3 gallons an hour... I like that you can set them on a timer to come on in the morning when ever you would like them to run and they also are a generator putting out 6000W and 120Vs. Not a fan of the APUs that have inverters.

What do you guys think about these?

The old ones were ok. They used to have Perkins engines in them. They were loud which was the downfall, but would cool the entire truck with no window shades up. They were better than the Tripac. I miss it... The new ones are supposed to be improved models, run more efficient, are quieter, etc. Just look around the truck stop for someone that has that brand and see if they'll let you check it out. If not, at least you can ask their opinions of that model.

Ours had the perkins motor. We LOVED it. It did keep us very comfortable when needed, both heat and a/c. Since hubby went local, we've removed it from the truck. The biggest plus for us was the shore power. If I recall it was 3400W, which was plenty to run the TV, DVD player, Microwave and Fridge. Plus it would charge the batteries while running, so we left the fridge hooked to the inverter at all times.

Keep in mind that the Rigmaster units are stand alone, which means you can run them with truck running. Tripacs are tied into coolant lines so they can only run with truck off or both engines (truck, tripac) will overheat.

    bullhaulerswife Thanks this.

This is true. I would fire it up when I was cooking while he was driving. I forgot about that. Thanks Shaggy.

I have been looking at the Tri-Pac also. I really like how many service centers Thermo King has. Not sure how well it works, because it is only 13,000 for AC and I need to pay $400 more to have it 13,600 for heat. The truck I will be putting this unit in is a Western Star 64in sleeper. It will be running from Northern NH to FL, AL, and GA. So it will be running temps from -30 to 100+
What to do what to do...

Thermo King will cost me $13000.00
    Rigmaster $9800.00

I am looking at the Tri Pac with

    120 amp Alternator
    Stand-By Integration
    1800 watt inverter
    High Output Heater
    Arcitic Package
    Stainless steel skin

The price I said before installed is the cheapest price I have found in this area...
