Just starting school and got 2 prehires

I found an ad on a job service website that said "2 years minimum experience". I called the company anyway and just imagine. They told me that they have a training program for recent grads. This is a company with 80 trucks. The mega carrier was going to pay me .25 a mile. This company offers .33 to start with increases over the course of the year. The smaller company is headquartered 30 miles from me and offers a better training program. Just don't be afraid to apply with the smaller companies because of what you've been told you can't do. Just call and ask if they hire grads without experience. The worse they can say is no.

 

That's great you were able to hire on with a company based so close to home, just goes to show what a little door knocking will do for you! I will not be starting school until next spring but I am going to start checking out as many local, smaller companies from now until then with hopes of getting a chance with one like yourself. With most of the mega-carriers I know you will be with a trainer from 4-6 weeks, how long was your training?

 

Hey everyone. Im actually really glad that I found this website and signed up. I have/had the same misconception about "paying my dues" and actually wanted to try and get into Schneider, but after I spoke to a trucker friend of mine and browsing this site, Im actually starting to rethink doing that.

 

the mega carrier was only going to give me 3 weeks (2 on the road) and the smaller is giving me 4-6 weeks.
