I will be attending SAGE trucking school soon, and I'm looking for companies that take people out of driving school and hiring in the Denver area. Gordon has jobs posted there, and it says OTR is about .38 a mile but it doesn't say how many miles you get a week. I'm just kind of curious about the first year salary, health benefits, how does home time work with them? Any info would be appreciated, as I continue my search into different trucking companies.

Well there's no salary to speak of when ur OTR...You get paid per mile which depending on exper....31 cents and up....I used to avg 2400 + miles a week but have been local so I won't say what it'll be when I return this summer.Health benefits are very good and usually most big truck co's. offer pretty good benefits. You get a day off for every week on the road and i usually stay out 3-4 weeks so I'll take 3 days off and request it over the Qualcomm 3 weeks ahead so the planners can see it and schedule me for getting home.Denver is a good place to get loads out of..The walmart dc up north and purina were just 2 that i always had runs to or from...You have to have a spotless driving record and no legal issues of major concern in the past or they will pass u up...Their tough to get into for most but worth it for sure......

Thanks for the info. I hope my background is good enough. The only spots, if they even count it, I had a speeding ticket (65 in a 55) back in 2000, so 12 years ago. The only times I've been in a courtroom is for bankruptcy and when I got married. Those are the only things in my background, not sure if that will stop me or not.

I think u'll be ok...not sure how picky they are these days...I don't think the BK will matter at all and the tickets pretty old...Good luck and hope to see you out there someday....

I am strongly considering Gordon. I talked to a recruiter today, and other than the insurance, they sound like a good company. I have a couple more questions though that came up after talking to the recruiter.
1. What is the orientation like? He told me it would be in Pacific, WA.
2. As I read the Gordon section of the forum, I read that it takes months for people to actually start, because of waiting on a trainer. Those threads were slightly old, is this still the case? He told me the trainer would be out of WA, so I assume my training would be on the west coast. -
I was in Pacific for O 18 months ago. Arrived on a Monday afternoon and was out with a trainer by Wednesday evening. Don't know what it's like now though. Depends on how many trainers available at any given time I suppose.

Orientation was just a couple of days maybe 3 depending i think on how many people are there...I had my trainer the next day and I think it just depends on who's avail at the time too..The guys that were local, got sent home to wait and those of us that were from out of town got them pretty quick.GTI has mostly west coast for everyone out this way and we never really stray east of Denver...I was in Memphis 1 time the rest on west coast....

Just finished orientation (4 days paid at min wage). Issued a truck (with APU) and DM on 4th day, but it's in the shop, so 34 reset. Clean, professional orientation. No litter in yard (Pacific), friendly staff including mechanics. Overall a welcome feeling so far. Let's see how the 1st couple of loads go....

Yeah I liked the Pac yrd...Everyone is very nice there and that makes a big difference for sure...I always enjoy the n/west part of the country...
