Big rig fire snarls traffic on Interstate 5

The CHP shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 5 near Magic Mountain during the lunch hour on Wednesday causing quite a back up for commuters. Officers closed the north lanes of the busy freeway because two big rigs had collided and caught fire.

All northbound lanes remained closed for at least 30 minutes as fire
crews doused the flames. There were no reports of serious injuries.

CHP closed the northbound lanes at Parker Road at 11:30 a.m., but began reopening lanes just after noon. By 12:30 p.m. two lanes were opened, with two still closed while crews cleaned up the debris from the big rig fire.

No word when the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 will completely reopen.
