Still in Las Vegas but in a hotel. The EGR valve is shot and hopefully the new one will be here tomorrow.

Head on down to see a show and have Bob B. pay for it. I'm sure he'll hook you up :)

You did report that to your FM right? Newbies need to know this ain't right, and if it was an experienced driver, DOH!

Lol I'm the one who did it.

I didn't have a ladder, the customer had a ladder but wouldn't let me use it because it was missing two steps. So I didn't have much choice. I threw two straps, it cut the first one but jot the second. The straps that got cut I threw away and bought new ones.

This is what the load looked like

At the Wilton Travel Plaza off 87. Tomorrow will be a pretty easy day since I am only about 180 miles from the cons. I already got my pre plan for Monday to get me out of Canada once I am unloaded.

I asked him for his platinum card number.. Even told him that I'd buy him something nice but it didn't work. ;)
We are still here... When they got everything torn apart, a screw had fallen out of the butterfly of the EGR valve and the shaft had broken. Those pieces were sucked into the EGR cooler which ruined it too. They have all the parts now but they say it won't be done until Monday afternoon now.

QUOTE FROM LANTERN ---Well this load going to NC has gone down hill fast. I picked this load up as a relay in Appleton. I saw the driver bring it in (local guy). Well I hooked and booked down 41 to the closest rest stop to inspect the load. Everything was ok, load was good to roll again. Figured I'd shut down at the TA at exit 1A between WI / IL (94). Well I go to take a look at a strap that looked alittle loose to see the entire structure built to support these pipes is starting to collapse.

I'm about 148 miles from where I picked this up as a relay. And it's so bad I don't feel safe driving with it. Called my FM and since bob Peterson wasn't in I got put through to maintenance.

Maint got a tow company to come out and take a look. He looked then called a carpenter to come out after he left. Guy came and instantly said it was horrible the way it was built. So now I have two cranes coming out tomorrow and day workers to fix this problem.

I did everything in my power to ensure this load was safe. 17 straps in good places so the local driver put them in the same places I would of. None over the wood to cause damage. I don't know what I could of did differently.[/QUOTE]

I picked up a relay load of this pipe yesterday at Appleton going to CA. Had fifteen straps on (17800 lb.) I added three more staps and started out. At first VC ,straps loose, look further 2x4 wood frame collapsing. Also the plastic wedges were crumpled or some missing now. Thepipe was shifting and falling down. Call weekend FM , he wants me to make to the next hardware store and fix it!! Not happening. I add more straps and limp back to Appleton. They take pictures and tell me Roehl has been having some problems with this shipper!!! SO WHY DOES ROEHL CONTINUE TO ACCEPT LOADS FROM THEM!!! Could have been a disaster! Not only that but when I get back to Appleton another driver is getting ready to leave with a similar load from same shipper. I tell him about my load and looks at it. Then we check his load. restrapping somethings, reinforcing 2x4 framework. He feels safe and starts out this morning. He calls me late this afternoon and has only made it 250 miles with a lot of issues. ROEHL GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER AND REFUSE LOADS FROM THIS SHIPPER!! I am still at Appleton waiting for a load Monday morning..they will be here my thoughts about the whole mess!! If they want me to take load back to shipper to get redone and then take to California, I think I will refuse load!! Will be my first refusal but oh well. I feel your pain Lantern.

Umm,, I know you probably don't want to hear this and I'm saying it in the nicest way,,,,, why don't you tell Roehl that you are finished with flatbed and switch to dry van? I bet your paycheck stays pretty much the same and you will have much less issues like you are dealing with right now. Trust me. I have done flats, refer, and dry van. Dry van is the easiest, least hassle, and for me at least, the best pay check. With flats, I spent my driving time securing and tarping loads, waiting to get loaded, and screwing around with construction areas. With refer, I spent my driving time sitting at food warehouses. Pulling dry van, I drive and have something dumb happen maybe once a month. You may get a few cents more per mile in the flat or refer division, but those cents don't nearly make up for the money you make just keeping it between the lines and pushing your loads like you can in the dry van division. I know flatbedders are a proud bunch of hard working drivers, but sometimes it just doesn't make sense. Just my honest thoughts.

I'm hoping they have a plan for what to do when Bob Peterson moves on. Dudes old, funny but old. Actually he's really cool too, kind of miss that guy. One time at a wedding he bought my wife drinks all night and chatted her up. I like Bob, he's a cool guy. Next time you guys are in Marshfield stop in and tell him I said hi!

I don't think roehl is going to give up a major customer due to issues
With loaded trailers unless they are losing money.
Roehl is probably working with the shipper to resolve these problems.
What sucks is the driver is the one stuck with the headaches, and flatbed
And curtainside are not worth the headaches in my humble opinion.
But my hat is off to those of you that do flatbed and curtainside.
(Note to self ) stay clear of flatbeds with large pipes ! ;-)
