I second that -
Yeah I'd have to agree with the majority of our generation being lazy. I look forward to doing pretty much the same as you. Never had anyone to get me into hunting, but I have been looking into, and trying to find someone I know to bring me with them and teach me some skills. I love fishing, I like working hard, I don't mind busting my ### off either. I'm 17 and I have the same plans as you, I hope to have a great woman at home and healthy kids once I'm a bit older, and of course, get experience and become an O/O. There are some people in my school that are pretty much living off their parents cuz their parents are quite wealthy, and I think thats ridiculous.
Hope you become a successful O/O and keep up the good work. -
Its true there isn't any young people out here im always looking for them when i stop at truck stops i'v been driving 5 1/2 years i'm 28 now when i shave i look 23 24 still. I love trucking rolling down the road shifting gears listen to the growl of the motor or the whistle of the turbo on an nice quiet night still makes me smile after 5 years. I haven't been driving long enough to talk about the golden years but i will tell you when i love driving the most, its when i'v got the music turned up and i'm rolling down the back roads with the twists and turns and trees making an arch over the the road i just love those days makes me happy to drive and i kinda feel like and old timer or im reliving smokey and the bandit lol.
The 25 insurance thing is true around here where i am there is a lot of companies wont touch you no matter how much experience you got. I know the company i'm with now barely highered me at the age of 24 because of insurance. They told me it was the first time they took the chance and they never regretted it, outta 130 drivers the last 3 years i'v come in the top 5 for miles and getting the job done. As far as i know they only have one other guy that is younger then me.
I'm far from done driving and the adventure is just beginning...Working on getting my own truck much to the wifes dismay lol -
Glad to see other drivers my age, I'm 22 just started driving for central ref in april. I come for a history of drivers and have wanted to do this since I could remember. I love every min of it. The past years I was floating job to job from painting to cable to to pay bills to live. As soon as I could I went for it and i love it. I have big dreams and I'm gonna let the industry take me as far as i can go. Amazing I'm the only one of my friends working, for the most part none of them can pass a drug test or even have the drive to try to find work. If things weren't hard they wouldn't be worth doing.

Well I'm far away from 22 or even 32 (thank God) but it gets discouraging sometimes to see the "younger generation" wasting itself away "hanging out" and generally being a PITA. Actually, it's encouraging to come here and see folks like yourselves. Thank you for that.
Frankly, what really gripes me has little to do with age. It's those folks who come to trucking as an "easy out" from whatever financial problems they have. You know, the ones that have rung up a hundred grand or so in student debt pursuing a "degree" that has extremely low chances of employment at any wage or that has had his "real job" disappear and in danger of having his Maserattis and $750K showplace/home repoed. -
Thanks all I sure plan having a good future for my family and me! Wanna be trucker..if your looking into getting into hunting or fishing there's tons of opportunitys out there for it. I encourage you to get out there and give it a shot! Go to Walmart or gander mountain and get a fishing license and buy a rod and reel that is already strung up with line and read online how to tie on hooks and grab a thing of night crawler worms and even a bobber and find a pond or lake and cast out a line and relax on the bank. If you can get a buddy or two to go it becomes lots of fun. Depending on where you live there may be state land you can hunt on for free and you can always drive around and ask people if they would allow you to hunt. If you present yourself in a good manner most people will let you hunt no problem. If you plan to bow hunt then you will have an even easier shot at getting people to allow you to hunt. You can buy a good bow set up for under $400 real easy and good starter rifles can be had for under the same amount. Don't listen to the hype you see on tv or in magazines you won't need the top gear or most expensive equipment. Any set of camo will be good and a decent gun or bow and your good to go! Read up online of different ways to hunt that will help as well. Try googling to see if there's any hunting clubs around you and join up. You can meet alot of guys/gals there that have been doing it a long time and can give alot of advice and could even tell you where to go and hunt. There's lots to read online so do your research and trust me when I say you will enjoy being in the outdoors!
wanna_be_trucker Thanks this. -
Yeah I got all the stuff I need for fishing and where to go. It's the hunting part that I need help on, which you have given me lots of good advice already, thank you. And I love being outdoors, camping, fishing, hanging out with friends outside, and whatever else I can do outside. I will definitely have to start looking at stuff online and seeing what I can get. I like the idea of bow hunting, but first I'd have to practice a lot first, because I've shot one before, and I definitely would have to practice first. Guns, I'm good with aiming with rifles, handguns I have bad aiming with haha. I only know this because of using bb guns, different from real guns (no recoil really) but the aiming concept is the same. Again thank you for the good advice!

Amen! to that brother Red. There are a lot of good hard working younguns out there but the all have been brain-washed by our public education system. Self-esteem is what you get when you've worked your tail off and did the job that needed doing not what some fufu teacher etc. gave you for simply existing.

Way To Go man!!! This country and all of us out in it need more just plain good folks like you. Don't know about more family time (at least at first) in trucking but with Skype and the fact you won't be anywhere as remote as some of the back country you've been in it's a lot better now than ever before. You just love up that good woman and sweet child all you can and don't look back. Keep on Truckin'!
