Good luck on your decision guys. If it helps any, having left there not too long ago, Tucumcari, NM is not that bad. If you can drive there as opposed to flying there you will be happier. There is not much to do, but you go to school 5 days a week from 8am-5pm.
You go through a little culture shock when you first get there but that fades quickly. Looking at all the bluffs and wide open spaces is nice change to the area of Florida we are from. If you are interested in Rodeo's at all, the college has a rodeo team and several of us hung out and watched them train. That is a good bunch of kids. One of them even let me ride his horse for an hour or so.
The instructors are all good guys, the training is good, they have 2 of Interstate's Freightliners there to train on as well as some older International's (manuals) so you can learn how to double clutch as well. It's a PTDI Certified school as well and accepted by all companies.
The hotel in Tucumcari is not a luxury suite by any stretch of the imagination, but it was comfortable and clean. We had a double room that had a sitting room with couch and tv and adjoining bedroom. Ours had 2 queen size beds... but oh well.. we share a twin now while training LOL. There is a convenience store attached to the front of the hotel and Larry makes an awesome hot pastrami sandwich. If you have any other questions feel free to PM me or post them here. Not trying to pressure you one way or the other.. just giving you as much info as possible.

I am still pretty new to the industry also, so my answers may not be the best. But like others here I would be shocked to find that there are companies that would base a decision on that. Sure there are still people out there that have personal problems with it. But frankly it is their personal problem. Certainly not yours, nor can anyone allow his or her own predijuces to effect a company based decision. I hope you find that any company you want to work for would welcome you both, and offer you the training and support it takes to transition into this business. But please if you do find some that do not, let us all know. I for one would never work for a company that operated like that. And I am certain I am not alone in that.
Good luck to you both! -
As for your first post... I talked with our trainer a bit about your post and he agreed with all the others. He has personally trained 3 interracial teams himself and sat here an listed off many more. Put that fear behind you! There are plenty of other things for you to worry about

Hey guys Burky hit this thing right on target, besides you guys probably are used to deal with this interracial thing. I'm a minority my self and I can tell you that sometimes I can feel it in the air, but ignorance and lack of culture is their problem, not mine. Don't be concern about people that goes out their way to show how little they are. You get hired, and you be all right, now good luck putting up with your partner 24/7 in that truck. JE JE JE JE !!!!!!!!
