So basically its just a timeline to get to the shipper then on to the receiver with your 10 hour breaks included. That makes sense they wanna make sure you make it to your appointments on time.

At my cdl school they didn't show us how to do a trip plan. They just talked about it but as for as hands on training on it. No

Their job was to get you a CDL, that's all. You are stressing out on stuff that will all be explained during driver training, that is what it is for.

Stressing about what? Just asking questions, that's what a new guy does when you want to get an idea

Will this trip planning be taught in class orientation or out on the road with driver trainer?

Ah, the supertrip. I ran it through my copilot software and it trimmed a few miles off, but not many. Yes they give you an intensive introduction, but your trainer should teach you.

    Rif Raf McQ Thanks this.

Trip plan, heres a trip plan.Grab your load run like hell with the hrs you have available, lol. Seriously guys,I was never required to send in a trip plan after grad. Not saying I didnt do one.I was just able to do one in my head and follow it.Im very good with numbers distances and the like in relation to time available and the time the delivery is to be made. Some guys cant do that.Do your plan, run the load ahead, and dont dally around. You can dally when you are on break. If the load calls for running at night, thats what you do.If it calls for running on ten hr breaks, thats what you do.Run loads ahead and on time and the miles will come.Dally around, dont run at night, constantly behind, and the miles will go to other drivers. Its a pretty simple formula.Served me well.I never had a service failure that had anything to do with a failure on my part.Just sayin.Tlea congratulations and good luck to you.Emul same goes for you.I still check the thread occassionally. Heres the bottom line for you new guys.Put time into knowing where the frack your going.Know your exit numbers, when your exits are coming up,what cities those exits are in etc.Do not just rely on your gps.You can thank me later.I ran the first 3 1/2 years with Stevens with no gps, never late.Sometimes they are more trouble than they are worth.

The supertrip class they give youy is way overdrawn and to confusing.I could give that class cut 8 hrs off it and the drivers would come out with a better understanding of what a trip plan is.Just saying, lol.

Truer words.have never been spoken. Good lord they complicate the simple things. What is your starting point, what is your end point, what is the logical route to take, how far can you most likely drive on a given dday and where will you break.

Not that difficult really. When I got to Germany I was asked.if I spoke German, I said no and was handed a map and told I better learn to read it then. Not that hard really.

the super trip was more about observing the drivers reactions, than actual trip planning. Frog is correct, 2 hours is all that is needed to learn the basics about trip planning. thanks frog, taking some much needed time off.

Enjoy your time off.Heaven knows I am.Its nice to finish your day and come home to your family and bed at night. There are some days that I work my a-- off.But I know I will be headed to the casa when Im done. And to top it off Im well compensated for it.Overall its the best decision Ive ever made.I do miss OTR but not enough to be gone from my family for the lengths of time I was gone.Im adjusting well.I actually have three days off this week.I avg. over 1100 a week gross. My lowest net paycheck in nine weeks was 825,the highest being 1175.Not bad for a driver with just over four years exp.Im on a pace for well over 50k and Im on the low end of the payscale. After a year 60 to 70k easily.Think I will stay with what I have, lol.
