Yeah I get .43 or .44 when I'm loaded, + tarps, stops, detention, per diem for nights I sleep in my truck and layovers.

The tarp pay isnt very much and if we run under 250 miles we get paid 1.5 hours at an hourly rate for every 52 miles we run.

That doesn't seem too bad. Better than some drivers get for being on the road months at a time !!!

I have never figured out why companies pay less to company drivers when they are empty. The company driver has no control over the empty miles they run.

Logan76, aiwiron and SHC Thank this.

I like that idea Cpape, then they may be more motivated to find some kind of freight.

I am not sure that would provide much additional motivation. .16/mi is not really that big when compared to cost of operation and opportunity costs.

    aiwiron Thanks this.

Yeah, because that company has to pay him to go back empty, ontop of the operating costs. It's worse than an O/O deadheading in that aspect. You would think they would find something to round out the numbers, but we also do not know what their rates are going out. Maybe they make enough going out to justify them bringing the truck back for another load out???? I guess as long as they hit their rate per mile that they want and revenue needs then it's ok. Just does not help the driver

We haul out of a select few customers only on our outbound loads and have been for years, I would take a guess that the rates are good and the DH is not really an aspect to anyone except my paycheck.
