My question is I pull a flatbed I am at .38 cents per mile I get $50.00 to tarp and $30.00 for drops and pick ups... I am trying to find out is this a good pay rate for flatbed driver.. My truck has been broke down a few times since I started this job ofcourse that means no pay to me.. I have every thing fixed on truck now so I hope smooth sailing for a while now... I plan on trying to run hard and see how it makes my bank account look... Was wanting tips on what the over all avrage pay was for flatbed.. I should have added I drive a truck that is leased to a co. I am kinda thinking I might do better as a co driver... Thanks for any input....

Hub miles or house hold goods miles?
How many miles do you get?
Do you set much or are they good at keeping you loaded? -
You say you are leased??? If so, not a good deal at all as this is company driver pay so can you explain a little more?
-
The 50 tarp is pretty fair for a company hand, the stop pay is a little low in my eyes compared to the hassle of doing them (especially with an open flat and tarped freight).
I can't say much on the mileage pay, if that's all miles and you average 2300 miles a week thats, 874$ throw in your tarp's, stop's and etc and your probably over 1k gross a week which puts your right in the "Average" area for pay.
One nice thing about mileage is that you can always figure out the money that you are owed and have a good bearing on what your paycheck should be.
I don't understand, you are driving a leased truck? As in your are driving for an O/O with multiple trucks leased to another company? Kind of like how Valley is leased to Great American, or that is YOUR truck and your getting raped working for company driver salary?
You also didnt mention if you were getting any kind of health benefits, vacations, sick pay, phone bill allowances, all of the little things that believe me do add up. -
I dont know what they use for the miles... But when I set my milege and check it with theirs it is not far off either way... Sitting well I will tell u about my last load I went on. I loaded in Lufkin, Texas on a Monday stopped at my house and left Tuse morning Had to be in Willingston, ND Friday morning.... could not un load any eariler than friday.. They said it was 1614 miles to there and in fact I drove less.. My next load was in Gwinner, ND and they wanted me there before 3pm friday I told them it was 320 miles and since it was 10 am when I got unloaded that I could not make it so that put me having to lay over in Fargo, ND from early friday evening until Monday Morning then pick my load up and dilver it in Kansas City MO Tues morning. My pay was this for that week ( Our Pay week runs from Wed 12:00am to Tues 11:59pm) I had 2254 Miles @.38 = $856.52 and I had 2 Drops at $30.00 per drop = $60.00 after Taxes I brought home $799.94.. I feel once I get to run with out break downs I might do ok... I try to chose long miles when they call me with the loads.. and try to stay out of areas where it is hard to get freight.. Just like the Willingston, ND I learned it is hard to get freight out of there.. Talked to several other drivers that was sitting just like me trying to get freight...

I drive for a Man who has 3 trucks 2 are leased with one Co, and the one I drive is leased with another Co. / I get no health Ins, phone sick or any thing like that.. Do get to take truck home only benifit..LOL
-
You could take the truck home almost anywhere else you worked aswell, I think I would look for something with some more benefits and possible more pay if I were you, but that is your choice you know how the old saying goes about the grass always being greener?

I have sat and figured it on miles and percent and if it is long mile run miles are better and percent is less but not by much.. if it is short mile then precent is more and milege sucks... So I am trying to convence the ownwr to let me go to the co where the other trucks is so I can benifit from percent and he told me that I would still be milege there also...
-
That's just how he prefers to pay you, he may not want to pay you % because then he may end up paying you more.
aiwiron Thanks this. -
I know... But he is not figured out that with the other co. we would both benifit from the income... with me being % I would make a little more and he would make more ... Thanks for all the replies at the least I know my milege pay is avrage... So I am leaving in the Morning for Lexington, KY and I have already told dispatcher what I want and how many miles I want and he has always helped me get what I ask for I told him I waned atleast 3000 miles in a week or more if I can sneek them in... if DOT will keep their nose out of it....LOL Got to love good old paper logs... and logging fuel with in the 24 hr of getting it.....LOL
