Does he want a career driving a truck? Or does he want specifically OTR driving? He can make a good living driving locally. I pull in around $850.00 gross a week. That's with two days off. He doesn't need OTR experience to make a career driving a truck.

Most of my driving experience in local.... and I've never had an employer who would even look over an application from anyone who wasn't at least 21 years old. There seems to be this impression that, some way, some how, positions for vocational trucks - which are insured through the same providers as OTR trucks - are open for 18 - 20 year olds. Perhaps there is somewhere? But you'd have to tell me, because I've never seen it.

How about looking at a local company in your area that hires dock people and also has their own drivers. Put in a couple years on the dock and
as you become legal age, if your a good employee they might hire you as a driver and even pay for your CDL.Last edited: Jul 23, 2012
