Flash point of gas is -45F its a wonder any of us are alive.:biggrin_2554:
Shutting your truck or car off has nothing to do with safety. Yes yes I know I have seen some of the youtube clips on here. Can you set your car on fire while fueling? yes you can but not because you left it run. Getting in and out and building up static now thats a different story but not by much.
In the 16+ billion, yes with a B, times a year we Americans fuel a vehical there have been about a 100 and some cases of fires starting when refueling. Those 100 and some caused where over a several year period!!!! So the chance of you catching fire is about 1 in a billion literaly. Go ahead and shut it down if it makes you feel safer. Its not about safety its about EPA.

Older trucker, older than me(!), told me that fueling while running can kick up sediment from the bottom of the tank, and lead to clogged fuel filters.

Made sense to me, so I always shut it off.

In the past, I shut my truck off at the pump, and one time it didn't start. TA will call a wrecker if you can't move it. Lucky for me, another O/O gave me a push start.
Ever since, I don't shut it off while fueling.
Go ahead and raz me but my truck will not block the fuel island.

and now you are a truck driver.under which catagory does the trust issue apply? all three? that parallels a salesman telling me that he is a christian as he tries to shake my hand right before he tries to sell me something. we are all online here and i trust everything and everybody especially if i read it online and on a truckers forum.

    okay.i was a bit sarcastic.

Tell that to the TWO drivers we've had hurt in the last month. On out new Macks, the top step under the driver's door is attatched to the plastic composite battery box covers. If those have been disturbed for some reason and not seated correctly they will slip out of place when you step on them and down you go. The first driver has 2 broken vertibrae in his neck and I fear his career is over. Dam junk they manufacture these days.:biggrin_25516:

I will leave it running when fueling. I typically won't shut it down unless I'm stopping for more than 15 minutes.
