I am looking at buying a few trucks around the country and I am having a hard time finding a reasonable cost on transporting them home. I was thinking about heading out on a plane and driving them back. But I want to see if this is even a viable solution. Of course I would register, insure, keep a log, and make sure all the lights and brakes work. But, I wouldn't have dot numbers on them or lettering (I remember reading somewhere I have 30 days?). I would obviously stop at all weigh stations. Now I can see many problems in my future explaining what I'm doing. I think I would also have to add them to my IFTA account. What am I missing???? Can I really register, insure, IFTA, and log then not have to worry about being put out of service? The registration would be personal not in a business name if that makes a difference. All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

get a magnetic sign made up to toss on the side of the cab as you transport it home.

Look into a hunter permit. It will allow you to transport it.

    tbone1471 Thanks this.

Thanks, the hunter permit looks like the way to go. Would this also let me make it home without adding the trucks to my IFTA? I would think that I would not be able to add it since I'm only on a permit and not a real registration. I can see this being a headache at every coop.

Some dealers will provide you with "transport" tags. You can go to DMV in some states and get them yourself. Call your state MV and/or the state of purchase MV people and get first hand answers.

Not sure on the IFTA check with your DMV they should know. Zhou shouldn't have a problem at the coops. I don't think you have to run a log either but check on that.

It's a permit that allows you to transport trucks with out tags. I used when I leased on with a company and was going to get tags through them. That is the govt reason. My reason is just another bill that driver have to pay
