Bobtail;
I am from the Orlando area and have also been looking for companies looking for Floridians CDL drivers. Very hard to find. Schneider will hire but will only go as far south as Jacksonville. I heard they pay very well for team drivers, somewhere in the $70,000 range, but you will be out racking miles and away from home for a while. Roadmaster trucking school can help you finding companies pay for your class ir you want to go this route. But your stuck with a contract.
I used to drive otr back in the 90's for a short time, I enjoyed trucking but my kids were very young and I did not like being away from them weeks at a time. Now they are in their 20's so i don't mind being away from home for an extended period of time. -
Stay away from CRST from what I have heard.Get into hauling tanks.Look at some of the Fl foodgrade tank companies like Bynum for example. Or just Florida companies only.Good luck bagging your first company. :smt117

Indeed and I don't have the money right now to pay for school do the contract is about my only option right now. Schneider going as far south as Jacksonville is almost like saying they only hire in Georgia lol

bunch of companies,
swift has a terminal in ocala......... -
Getting a decent gig in Florida is hard enough even with experience. Honestly, your gonna have eat crow for a while with whomever you can get on with.

Tons of training companies hire out of FL.
Stevens
Schneider
Knight
England
Swift
Werner
Prime
Central Refridgerated
Those are the ones off the top of my head.
Stay away from Roadmaster. They are a scam. Why pay them thousands to do what you can do yourself? I started with Stevens. They are a very good training company. They will bring you to Dallas to go through their school. They are very thorough, and companies will jump for Stevens trained drivers. Forget the tankers for at least your First year. Bynum and Indian River both want you to have some experience under your belt. -
Last I checked (within past month) for a friend who just graduated roadmaster. Central, England and Prime are not hiring in Florida.
Roadmaster isn't a scam. If your not a quick learner then you will flunk however. They teach you enough to get your CDL. -
I just want a company that will pay for the training ... I don't have to live in Florida forever... I just have a Florida Address which seems almost like a cancer to trucking

How was your pay like with stevens ? and I have to note I live in South Fla....,but Could use a family member who lives in central Florida the east sides address... if needed
