I'm looking at taking some freight on recurring runs up into Canada and returning empty.
I am starting to read up on the permits required (like Ontario's CVOR) and restrictions.
My rig has a 266" WB but it is older than a 2003, so the WB is grandfathered in - at least for now.
I already had my passport, TWIC as well as my FAST cards, so I think I'm good there.
But, I am looking for someone on here that has (or still does) run into Canada that can help point me in the right direction.
Even a recommendation to a permit company that "does it all" would be fine too.
The few permit companies I called either gave me whishy-washy answers or were juggling 2-3 calls at the same time as mine.
OOIDA wasn't much help, which was actually surprising to me.

My carrier uses Livingston for a Canadian broker . http://www.livingstonintl.com/View.aspx?locale=en-ca&uid=CustomsBrokerage
-
The wheelbase restrictions in Ontario is being revised ( longer ) to allow for APU's , Livingston is 1 of the better brokerages and good service
-
Well...I dont think they dont seem to do permits?? - I dont need a broker per se, but i need someone to help me with the paperwork and permits.windsmith Thanks this.

I'm looking for the same info. Run northeast a lot and want the flexibility of getting some of those good rates going in and out of Canada.
Hanadarko Thanks this. -
You bet!
So far, here is what I have learned...costs may vary based on doing it yourself vs a permit company:
-Ontario requires:
IRP/IFTA
CVOR: $250/yr - takes 15 days to process
-Quebec requires the following:
IRP/IFTA
Safety permit form
NI # (no idea what that is)
Power of Atty from someone with a Quebec mailing address
-SASKATCHEWAN
Nothing required beyond IRP/IFTA
So far, doing the math...to get setup for Ontario and Quebec is close to $1k out of pocket.
Naturally that can be made up on the many loads up to there. Just expect to come back deadhead.
There is virtually #### coming back out of there...
But at the high rates, you can easily afford to do that.
Oh...then there is a PARS (pre-arrival-review system) and PAPS (Pre-arrival Processing System). One is for import to CA and one is if your hauling export.
Many guys wont or cant deal with these regulations...but I think its worth some investigation.
We also seem to need a 4 digit Canada code:
