I HAVE had experience with them . I was a member when I was hauling RV's. I called them for info on full insurance coverage when I was looking into getting my own authority . Roadmedic is right about them not being any help . They couldn't provide coverage. I called a company that had an ad in "The Trucker" and was provided with four companies that could insure me. Other services such as random drug pools offered better rates than OOIDA rates.
OOIDA did not keep EOBR's out of our trucks. They'll be there before long.
All OOIDA did was keep FMCSA from mandating EOBR's on carriers with excessive HOS violations . IMO that had more of a negative than positive effect on safety .

    Roadmedic Thanks this.

In truth, the fight against the eobr was as you stated. Since it stopped them from putting them on the carriers with the excessive HOS, it forced the government to go and make it mandatory for all. GREAT JOB OOIDA.

    RickG Thanks this.

It was not the OOIDA that caused it, matter of fact the funding for the little black box was blocked so no black boxes due to the OOIDA.

Funding was blocked, but no funding is needed to go forward with it. The FMCSA still has the mandate of 12 months to get the plan in place. Keep dreaming.

You have your opinion on OOIDA and their success on this, I have mine.

As of 7/23/12, this has not been blocked. OOIDA is the only place that thinks it is.

Well that is true and respect your opinion and view point. But if we are to place the blame on the shoulders of OOIDA then we may be over looking the root of the problem than the actual cause.

So which forum member do I pay $45 a year to that will prevent eobr's from being placed in MY truck? For the same money, will this person go after states like MN. with their fatigue ruling?

No group is perfect & while there are things that OOIDA does that I am not a fan of, they do more to help than hurt. They get out spent from the get go from opposing lobbyist & the ATA(which are one & the same). Gooberment flunkies will place all sorts of laws on the trucking industry to pound their chest at re-election time to tell the soccer Mom's they are now safe. If OOIDA does not catch newer strangulation errr ummm regulations, mention them or bring attention to them, they go unchecked until & the noose is set.

I have been a member there since 07 I think. Usually catch their Dec/Jan $25 renewal. Forgot about it this year & had to pay $45.

I have personal reasons and dealings with them that have soured me toward them.

Odd you bring up Minnesota, they are still at it and nothing changed.

OOIDA only had success in stopping them from allowing them to put EOBR in the bad carriers. So, the government fights back and changes it to ALL CARRIERS.

    No success in my mind.

I agree with one points you made . Money talks. In Washington ATA and the Teamsters roar while OOIDA whispers.
