where did the wire burn up at? was it at the plug or in the motor?
-
If it was like the ones I had, the plug melted. I bought an Igloo. Plug melted on it, too...but the whole cord is detachable and replaceable. Both brands lasted between 6 and 8 months for me, but I keep them plugged in pretty much all the time.
My last Coleman, however, I did replace just the plug with one from another little cooler unit I had. I got another couple of months out of it before I trashed the whole thing. -
Just the wire not motor

If you are talking the coolers,
a loose electrical connection is causing the heat that melts the plug.
Secure the plug connection fixes that problem. -
Loose connection = higher amperage = a melted plug

You can rebuild it for $20 and a couple of dc brushless fans from radio shack. Approximate size is good enough. You can get a couple of years out of one of those junk coolers with just a little work on your part.
