If you knowingly drive unsafe equipment down the road, it makes you an unsafe driver. Thats how it is. There is no gray area. But to answer your question, you can take a 34 while under a load. Most companies give you a card that says you are relieved from duty on breaks.

 

i think maybe this rookie driver may not really know what out of spec is ......most t/a shops will push for those replacements if anything is out of spec especially tires....just saying

 

If it is an inspection, after your thrown under the bus, yes it will be your career, if it's after an accident investigation, it's your future, might as well head over to the dollar store and get some soap on a rope, you may need it.

 

ummm, aren't you the one that came off with the attitude first. i'd be a smart butt to you too. and i've been driving twice as long.

while you do have a valid point. you really outta think about the reality that your valid point doesn't work for EVERY company. and there are lotsa reason why it happens. and there are lotsa reason why the driver pretty much has to take the BS.

we can't all just jump ship everytime we don't like putting out butt on the line. some of us have priorities and have to do the best we can with whatever crappy job we have.

after all. having a job is better then no job at all. and it provides money in the bank till he looks for another company that might work better.

but, what i do with my company is just tell them i'll be put out of service. they don't like that idea. and they also know i won't put up with being put out of service. if his company has half the brains. they'll fix it.

 

in utah, they don't accept voluntary inspections anymore. and apparently other states are following suit. i don't remember which states though.

 

So why didn't you do your job and write it up on your DVIR? Once you fill that out, by law the vehicle is out of service until a mechanic signs off on the repairs. You do realize that if you checked off that vehicle condition is satisfactory you are falsifying a federal document and will be in deep #### if something does go wrong, all so some company can save a few bucks. Next time try asking them to put on the qualcomm that they want you to run on 6 bad tires and then call the safety department. Probably would not even get that far cause I doubt they would put it on there and you would be getting new tires and if they did whoever sent that message would be looking for a job.

Now I realize you want to make money and feed your family and so on but the risk is simply not worth it. Six bad tires comes out to 126 CSA points for the first year if they write you up for all of them. Good luck finding or keeping a job with that many. Now hopefully since this thread is 2 months old you found a new job with a company that actually cares about safety and your career cause if I was told to run with 6 bad tires I would tell them to shove it.
