The reason they do the things they do is ensure that the driver they have in their 200k piece of equipment can handle the preassure of over the road driving and not just hire some idiot just out of schol i have bin w my trainer 2 weeks and i get my truck monday and hope start making money ! If you want to b home ever week then dont become a truck driver simple as that

i agree with u on that plus there are several other reasons but that is a good one. plus i say if u want to be home every weekend, go get a job driving locally. this is otr not i can't be away from my mom, wife or kids. otr is not for everyone. i'm not trying to be ugly i'm just being very honest about it.

I chose TMC because I was supposed to run "regional." Ive spent many, many days away from home in the service. If this is the way it is in trucking, then maybe its not for me. I dont wanna drive local. If I wanted a local gig, I would have gotten one straight from school. I appreciate everybody's opinions and help. Everybody is different and has different needs. I dont need to be home every week for me, I need to be home for my wife. I understand the whole time mgmt thing, oh believe me I get it. The thing is, I'm not sure its entirely legal. And, I dont want to run that way. I chose flatbedding for my reasons. I chose TMC for my reasons. I spoke to a driver in a maroon freightliner today. He told me in 7 months he only missed 2 weekends. And if your out for the weekend you get paid 850 miles worth. Pretty sweet. Its just alot to think about.

Every time I read one of these posts I throw up in my mouth a little! The reason they do the things they do is simple: GREED!! This bull crap of not having a home life just because you are a professional driver is a falsehood they want you to believe in. It's amazing there are MANY drivers who get home EVERY weekend and some who like me get home every night.

I have 50 truck drivers that work for me that are home every weekend. They deliver everywhere in the Eastern half of the country from ME to FL to TX to MN and all points between. It is a myth that you can't run OTR and be home every weekend.

I think Blind dog has a couple words to say about that "we make it a priority to get you home" line.....

I just got approved today through the VA Voc reab program. I start my CDL school on the 6th. Looking at TMC pretty hard. I have been reading these posts for 3 months and have got a pretty good education from a few folks on here. One way to learn about the industry is to listen to those working in it.
