2002 detroit 60 series shut down and will now only start with starting fluid.

    Just bought truck and drove it home 400 miles, been driving it around for about a week. Went to move it the other day. It started just fine, then shut off after 15 seconds. It will only start back with starting fluid, then dies when you stop spraying. Transfer pump is pumping fuel, bypassed low coolant sensor. Check engine light comes on when you turn key on, so fuse between batteries and ecm is good. Someone said it could be cam sensor or timimg sensor. HELP!

    Are you getting any fault codes? I had an issue with batteries a week or two ago so it could be that the ECM voltage is too low. See if you can get a fault code it could point you in the right direction.

    Transfer pump may be working But is fuel getting to the injector pump? Does this thing have a fuel filter with a clear bowl? Ifso is there fuel in it? If not remove the black plastic cap on the top of the bowl and fill with fuel, start truck, it should start and run. If filter dosn't refill with fuel start checking fuel pick up and lines and fuel LEVEL!

    Try turning key on/off five times. You might have a fuel shut off solenoid acting up.

    Check your five pin power harness from batteries to ecm - look for corrosion in one of the positive wires

    Need to check for fault codes but it is probably your timing sensors. I would change both the TRS and SRS. Both are on the driver side of the motor. One is behind the air compressor and the other is directly below (you can trace the wire to it from the first one). Both are held in by one 13 mm bolt. If you find a lot of metal on them you may have other issues like a bull gear going out.

    Thanks for info. Have plenty fuel in tanks. I went ahead and replaced SRS sensor, didn't help anything. Ran hose straight from 5 gallon bucket to transfer pump, when motor runs for about three minutes (on starting fluid and wd-40), it will suck 1-2 gallons from bucket, but truck will not run on diesel. As soon as you stop spraying, it dies again. If check valve was stuck open, would it stop fuel from getting to injectors? Do you think ECM could be bad? I can't get any codes to come up on dash, none. Thanks again for help.

    on the fuel pump there is an emergency shut off. I looks like a little push button. rotate with a pair of plyers, and see if that doesn't take care of it. My friend works for detriort motors and he said to try that. Spray it with wd-40 to loosen it up . it should help. If it works but then doesn't again your fuel pump needs to be replaced because the senor is going bad.

    i think the best idea would be to check the ecm for fault codes. wouldn't it.

    cuz that shows a code for just about anything that's gone bad. then you'll know what the problem is rather then replacing parts after parts.

    least, that would seem to be the case on my truck. seems like everything is tied into the ecm in one way or another.
