I think they took a deposit out of me in the first few weeks for padlock, snow chains, broom, nail puller, and load straps. Perhaps it was 25 bucks a week for your first few pay checks. When you quit, turn them in, and get it back.

Very straight forward, no surprises, no nickle and diming, you won't be pressured to buy gear, or a truck or anything. Have fun in school, orientation, and funishing!

Volvos should be 9 gears.. when I had one they broke down a lot. Teams get volvos if there are any if not there in frights. Starting pay for 1 year.

    Very excited...
I start orientation in Taylor, MI on Monday 07/30.
I plan on driving solo and just hope thzt I can get good miles.
I only need to be home every 3 weeks or so, so I am hoping that this will help.
I am brand new to the industry but have family that has driven for over 20 years so I have an idea of what ive gotten into!
I do have a couple questions for anyone that might know...
    1) Will I get to leave immediately following the 3 day orientation or might I have to go home for a few days waiting on a trainer?
    2) After completing training and testing out will I get a truck right away? Ive heard some talk of drivers having to wait for anavailable truck. If so, how long?

    1. I'm not sure I heard some times they let u go home and ur trainer just runs by and picks u up.
    2. If there a trk there u get it sometimes they will send u places to get one if not wait shouldn't be that bad.

    A few questions.
    1. If you live in Florida where are you sent for orientation? How long is it? Is it paid? Are any meals covered?
    2. What kind of trucks do solos get? Do they have APUs?
    3. Being from the east coast, will they tell me I'll be running 48 states and then keep me on the east coast most of the time, or am I just as likely to go out west as anyone else? I want to run everywhere and don't want where I live to get in the way of that. With most companies that seems to be too much to ask.
    4. What customers does CWTL have? What kinds of freight do you haul?
    5. Are you on elogs?
    6. Where do you fuel? I know some companies only fuel at pilots or flying j, etc.
    7. Do you get home on time? Does anybody call your phone and bug you while you're at home?
    8. What's the cap on pay? If you have more than a year is your starting pay higher than .36?
    9. Do they primarily use the qualcomm to communicate with drivers, or the phone?
    10. What all can you tell me about the health insurance?
    11. What criteria do you have to meet to be hired, and which parts of it are they more strict about than others?
    12. Do I really have to go to canada? If I get my passport will I be reimbursed?
    13. Do any of the solo trucks have cat engines? (my first truck at my old company had a cat. i spent more time in the shop than behind the wheel)

If I think of more I'll ask.

    1. If you live in Florida where are you sent for orientation? How long is it? Is it paid? Are any meals covered? I think they still do it JAX, yes it is paid, but not much, and some meals are covered, I think just breakfast and lunch.

    2. What kind of trucks do solos get? Do they have APUs? Mostly T-660. And most do not have APUs

    3. Being from the east coast, will they tell me I'll be running 48 states and then keep me on the east coast most of the time, or am I just as likely to go out west as anyone else? I want to run everywhere and don't want where I live to get in the way of that. With most companies that seems to be too much to ask. You will run all 48 plus Canada, but living in FLA almost everytime you go home it will be through the wonderful metropolis of Atlanta.

    4. What customers does CWTL have? What kinds of freight do you haul? Anyone and everyone that has dry frieght.

    5. Are you on elogs? Yep

    6. Where do you fuel? I know some companies only fuel at pilots or flying j, etc. Almost every Pilot/J sometimes at some of the others, and almost any Conway yard.....You choose your fuel routing, but they have preferred stops.

    7. Do you get home on time? Does anybody call your phone and bug you while you're at home? There is no on-time for home-time in FLA. But they make every effort to get you home quickly which usually works out to within a week depending on where you are when you let them know you want to go home. I have been called at home a few times, but just said no. I stay out for at least a month at a time, and when I go home, I dont even want to think about going back out early, I think they know that now.

    8. What's the cap on pay? If you have more than a year is your starting pay higher than .36? not sure what they start you out at anymore.
    9. Do they primarily use the qualcomm to communicate with drivers, or the phone? qualcomm is the preferred method....calling is sometimes a long wait on hold.

    10. What all can you tell me about the health insurance? it is cigna, and it is ok

    11. What criteria do you have to meet to be hired, and which parts of it are they more strict about than others? does your heart beat? no criminal history, the basics

    12. Do I really have to go to canada? If I get my passport will I be reimbursed? You are reimbursed for everything, I dont go to Canada, but I think all new hires do have to.

    13. Do any of the solo trucks have cat engines? (my first truck at my old company had a cat. i spent more time in the shop than behind the wheel)Some do, but I think most dont, mine is cummins. Still when it goes down it seems to go down for a long time. most shops in this country work bankers hours and are backed up, I should have been a diesel mechanic.

Orientation is 3 days in MI with Mark. (Instructor). Lots of paperwork to sign. A verification interview over the phone with a rep from Joplin that verifies your willingness to speak about job history, dmv records etc. Quick tip=if they invited u to orientation they know they want u. They already know about you so just be honest. They do an in person interview as well that reviews the same info. Probably to review the data that u gave for consistancy. DOT physical / drug screen at Concentra. Its a 5 panel. However I do have a feeling that they also look for benzo's. (Valium, Xanex etc) You will watch a few videos, take an agility test then a backing test. 45 degree alley dock between 2 trailers. We ended our day with a business ethics video. All in all it was an easy day. Mark is pretty funny and very personable. We had quite a bit of down time which allowed us to talk to drivers at the terminal that were waiting on loads. Not one complaint from any of them. If anyone want to know anything else just let me know. (Agility specifics, backing specifics etc)
