I got nailed at a scale in california for a couple of things. One of them was a loose screw in the trailer air tank and the other was for a broken center regulator mount, apparently the driver that had the trailer before me had just stuffed it behind the brake can on the trailer so it wouldn't hang down. These are two things that I have never inspected nor even looked for. To tell you the truth I didn't even know what a center regulator looked like till the inspector pointed it out to me If I had seen it hanging down I would not have known what it was but I would have strapped it up. My question is if these are not things that are mandated to be on a pre trip inspection how the hell can I get a ticket for them? My second question is what will this do to my csa score? I have a perfect record so far and would hate to lose it through my own stupidity.

They are part of your Daily Vehicle Inspection. A pre-trip involves more than just walking around, you are supposed to look under, also. You got points and it will take three years for them to go away.

If it's broke it needs fixed. Drivers pass the buck on broke trailers all the time. It sucks but it's life with a company. You kind of know your truck but a trailer you don't know what you are gonna get. I probably would of missed the screw but I always crawl under and check the brakes and shoes. How I would of handled it? I would of have to seen it. Some stuff you can write up and check off the vehicle is safe to drive. I don't know how the leo would react if he seen it written up and that you were aware and it's gonna be fixed?

Was that the I-5 scales down by San Diego? They are very strict and thorough there. If they can't find something they'll make something up. There is no negotiating.

The points are a minor slap on the hand. Just don't get anymore of them for three years if you can help it.

a broken mount on a air tank is a oos though. not something that can just been seen and marked on the inspection form. if the other bracket breaks then the can goes flying out of the trailer and into a car. and you end up with no air and locked up brakes anyways.

you don't work for my company do you. cuz that was supposed to be taken to the ta in barstow to get fixed before going back to yard. 3 months ago. LOL.

i delivered a load and another driver broke down. i had to swap his trailer and deliver his load. the trailer i had decided to break the tank mount right before i hit the scale leaving the valley. i used a bungee to hold it in place. this was 1 a.m. on the 15. the scales were closed thank goodness cuz i did NOT want to get pulled in after rolling through the area a 3rd time in 4 hours. delivering 2 loads to the same customer

Thanks for your input, I did miss it but like I said I didn't even know what it was till it was pointed out to me it was stuffed behind the break can so was not hanging down or I would have done something about it. I'm not a lazy driver I check my equipment thoroughly. No excuses I screwed up in not knowing.
