Unfortunately there are many .... ### holes in this world. Just find the closest place to legally park and go there. You did good on covering your rear by sending the message in. Also, follow up with a call to your FM in the morning after it happens. Welcome to trucking!

1) If they tell you to leave, please understand, you're leaving. Never bother a shipper/ Cons with HOS laws. The goal is finding out where you need to go. IF the people at the shipper/ cons, can't help, then you're to night dispatch, they may be able to google-map your location, and see something nearby that you could fit in. "That's fine. Do you know if there's anyplace nearby I can park for the night?" Because you're not likely *ever* to be the first driver this has happened to.
If it comes down to "Get out of here, or I'm calling the cops!" Well, let them. If you really are in such straights, a police officer may be your best bet at help, but remember, you are not "refusing to leave" you are "trying to find someplace to go."
Now, to clarify. This happens to everyone when they're new. then you start eyeballin' every place your truck will fit, on your way into the place, so you have an idea where you're going to hide if things go south. and if you don't spot any, you're calling dispatch a couple of hours before crunch time, so you don't have situations like you did.sly1, Rattlebunny and skyviper73 Thank this. -

lyle, this is a good question, and you've had good answers.
i want to add that you should keep track of your time, all the time. if you're waiting and waiting, and they haven't gotten around to you, then you can always leave and come back when you have more time for them. that's hard to do when you're waiting to unload, and impossible if they're in the process of unloading.
but i've driven out of shipper's properties and given up the load if they haven't gotten to me in the time i have available to be legal. if you choose the legal option, make sure that your dispatcher knows that you're running out of time, and will have to leave if they can't get to you. make sure that you can't stay there after you're loaded, in advance.
then just go. let customer service, the planners, and your FM figure out what to do with the load. that's what they're paid to do.
nobody will be impressed if you run over a drunk while you're out of hours, if you knew you would run out while you still had time to leave. -
