I have been driving for ten years, I've been off the road only 5 mths. I'm finding it hard to get on with any over the road
company because 5mths is considered too long, unless I get more recent experience. I just changed my license over from Louisiana to california, and I'm waiting on my hazmat background check.
Other than that ,I have all but passenger end. No felonies, no drugs or alchohal background. I've been driving bobtail
for a local company, but I want to get back on the road. I'm living in riverside california at present, relocation is not a problem.
Any drivers out there know of any owner ops looking for a driver.

I would be frustrated if I were in your position, having all of that experience and they'd rather hire a noob.
I think this reason though is because their insurance company requires it, and with so many drivers, it's impossible for them to go through every driver's work history to see if they are insurable or not with the type of insurance policy contract they have.
Sorry for intruding on your thread, but if anyone was wondering about why you'd be passed up, I just wanted to mention that it's probably the insurance.
Hope you find a good job. -
Man, I understand you frustration. It almost makes you want to get a fax machine with a second line put into your house and then make up a trucking company name and say you worked for them the past five months. Then when they call to verify you would have to tell them yes that is where you worked and if they wanted to get a letter of recommendation you could fax one over to them. But of course no one has ever done that before.

Thanks for responding, It's good to know I'm not alone out here. I'm probably going to have stay local for a while. It seems the longer I'm off the road, the harder it is to get back out there.
I think my only option is to find a truck owner to get me started again.
