Sittin here minding my own business...and out of the blue a poem pops in my head...thought I'd share it even though its not all that good...I've never written a poem...and from the looks of it, I best not quit my day job
I thought I may call it "Its what I do"....but not sure yet.
I drive more miles in a month than most do in a year...I travel through weather that most people fear...I've rolled across the deserts, the mountains, the prairies and the plains...and I always hated those #### snow chains...I've seen a lot of country and had a lot of fun...and I've worked my ### off to make the run...I've given my life to this job on the road, and safely delivered every load.
EDIT: I think I'll have that on my headstone when the time comes (no time soon, I hope)...rewritten in past tense though.

I will surely be glad to see July go. This month has just been too slow. Once again Im gonna be home empty (second time this month) and I had to deadhead 500mi there or sit in the middle of nowhere idling all weekend. I figured if I was goin to burn a tank of fuel it might as well be to go home since I didnt get home last weekend!! Goodbye July, hurry up and leave!
-
I want August to be very very busy! July wasn't too bad for my division, but I want it busier. I would like to average 8 loads and 2500+ miles per week this month.

And Dan, you are the IC with the Blue Kenworth, correct? I remember that Sarge and I got loaded right in front of you in Ft. Smith when I was in his truck on one of my last days of training back in late December, or right after the first of the year. So, although we never met, I am pretty sure that I have seen you before.
-
Maybe and maybe not. At that time there was still a second blue kw in the fleet.
-
If you're the only one now...I parked right beside you a week or so ago at the Loves in St. Joseph, MO....at least I think thats where it was...I was only there for a 2 hour nap, but I parked right next to a a blue KW with "MavIC" on the door.
In any case...I think I met you a couple years ago in Jackson, OH at that truckstop on US35...but it may have been that other guy in the blue KW, I don't really know...that happened before I knew you drove the old Melton truck. -
Far as I know Im the only one now. There is an old Melton freightliner though. I was in St Jo a couple mondays ago

Southland Tube, Birmingham AL. Pre loaded trailer, ok that could be good, save some time maybe. Find trailer and inspect it. That's odd nothing in trailer not even tembers. Call FM and I'm told oh ya you have to take everything from your drop trailer and move to the preloaded trailer. Oh fun, heat index is only 102 and I only have to move EVERYTHING 100 yards. So I pile it all on the cat walk and drive it over to the preload. Then you have to wait in line for the tarp machine, what a joke that is.
Bottom line is this place puts a vacuum on your bum! -
On a good note I hauled my first load of gray bar out of Ft Smith. That's an awesome facility. This must be Mavericks bread and butter. Gray bar is an easy load, hope to get more of those in the future.
