I have been using the notebook method and it has been working well for me. If i do use the gps fuction on my phone it is for time estimates only. When i did tl up around myc and ct i used the turn by turn but its favorite saying was 'rerouting, rerouting' :biggrin_25519:

ADC maps are the best, easy to read and quick to find streets using the index. cost runs @ $15 and you should be able to get a philly one at just about any wawa. they used to have one for camden, burlington, and gloucester counties but i don't see them listed anymore. i used to mark all the bridges in mine and then notes in the margins. saved my sorry *ss more than i'd like to admit.

I would say if you are running local and just a few big cities within a few hundred miles of each other, use a Thomas Guide map book or two, they work real well. Now if you are doing OTR, that would be way to many map books to be hauling around. The paper folding maps worked best for me when I'm doing over the road delivering to a lot of big cities throughout the country.

I think that is where it is better to have a Roadmaster Gps, don't know about the other brands so I can't tell how they are in comparison. It will throw up a red flag if it is a road I guess that you are not supposed to be on esp when I told him to use a route in the Birmingham area to get around a closed ramp, then he had to back track and get out of there, oh well you win some and lose some.

We used the Garmin for cars originally, but I was monitoring it since I didn't drive and have to put via points in to tweak to the routes off route solution on qualcomm. The only problem was it wouldn't tell you about bridges or things like that. In getting around town I would via it to a major thruway generally, or larger roads versus the small grey lines.

Phones would be ok, but they are so small.

Found this one for Philadelphia and the greater area.

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0528855670

Check a Barnes and Nobles, books a million or any other large book store in your area. They probably have this in stock.

I agree ADC maps are the best. If you live in the Philly area you can get a 5 county ADC map I has ring binding covers 5 counties including Philly Camden Burlington and down by Darby. You can get it at sams club or BJs for half price if what the cover says. I been doing OTR for 2 years but I miss my peddling days. Anyone here no any good local Philly cos let me know.

What no more TMC? I tried new century a whole ago and they weren't hiring. I was with roadway and we used to pick up a lot of freight from new century. It was a warehouse they had in Willingboro. Also when JEVIC was in business we used to get freight out of there terminal.
