Notice in the case above that the guy's CB was interfering with public safety radios. That will attract attention very fast from the FCC.

On the other hand it takes the FCC YEARS to do something about a rogue ham radio operator who willfully jams and interfers with ham radio transmissions. So basically as long as you aren't interfering with somebody important a hopped up cb radio isn't really going to be noticed. Doesn't mean you can't or want get caught its just very unlikely anybody will care

The FCC has bigger fish to fry.

If you are not bothering anybody, they won't bother you. If they have a complaint, they may send you a letter. If the complaints keep coming, you may get a visit. That is if you're running a base of coarse.

Being that this is a truckers forum, you won't be bothering anybody but some other drivers.

Now, you may hear about or see the FCC targeting the cb shops. Remember when you could by 10m radios at trucks tops? Not anymore cuz the "uncle Charlie" nipped that one.

And the funny thing is while this is true, I know of a few locals with CB shops that sell 10 M radios AND linears on their shelves.

Well, you know there are three kinds of people:

    1) The ones that learn from other folks being busted.
    2) The ones that learn from being busted themselves.
    3) The ones that never learn.

If you go and look at just about every case where the FCC was called out to investigate someones "Illegal" station, it was not because the guy was running illegal power with a CB Radio, but rather because they were interfering with either someones electronic devices, or they were interfering with Government Frequency's...

FCC enforcement against, and protection of, CB and ham bandwidth is driven by complaints.

A ham - google Glenn B. K1MAN. This guy has been running hour-long broadcast or one-way "bulletins" on several frequencies simultaneously, advertising his commercial services, firing up right on top of ongoing conversations simply because he has published an online "schedule" for these "bulletins", and basically annoying others on the ham bands for years and the FCC finally got a hold of him a couple years ago. K1MAN files a federal lawsuit against the FCC and tied this whole matter up for a long time. I think he is still on the air. The reason he is stil on the air is probably that he has used the legal process as well as particular of FCC's own procedural rules to block and thwart the FCC's work to stop his activities. He must know a lot about the law. Many hams who are annoyed by his antics hope a resolution will come soon. Unlike most hams, when the FCC told him to stop what he was doing and explain himself, he got uppety with them and would not stop. He has also apparently tried to file criminal complaints against FCC officials. I think he also was using Walter Cronkite's mane ans someone who endorsed him, but Walter certainly didn't!

Want to read a horror story about a bad ham, there is plenty to read. There are also whole sections on the FCC website listing the complaints and "notice of apparent liability" but they are not the easiest to find.
