Its a very tragic situation , The aviation industry being effected by a mere lone rambo with a souped up cb

This is what happens when you clip modulation limiters, run cheap-sh@t linear amps and over-drive everything. You cause harmonic interference in places you cant even imagine...

It is noisier, by a lot. I used to be able to reach out for miles on a little 3 channel hand held I had when I was a teenager. I doubt it would work at all today. I just figured out where this repetitive buzzing signal was coming from that interferes with both my CB (no matter the channel I'm on) and my headphones at home. My cheap little cell phone that I bought a few weeks ago. I finally figured it out when I put my hand over the phone when the tone started and it nearly silenced it.

It's all good. The Guy probably had no idea he was interfering. But that's not an excuse. I had no idea it could bleed up onto aviation channels I thought it just bled over on the other cb channels. I learned something.

Radio signals do lots of really funny things, especially when you get into modifying stuff. And it's really bad in today's world where practically everything electronic is transmitting a signal. Lots and lots of unintentional interference and weird effects. Even the atmosphere and weather affects electronic signals.

I'm glad they caught the guy. I hope they roll him up, and smoke him good. Next thing they should do is pick a truck stop here and there, and start busting these guys running anything hotter than 25 watts.

Want to talk better? Then get a sideband unit. You can push 20 watts legally talking on sideband. If you peak your Cb up a little, to throw out 10 or 12 watts, that will not hurt enough, to make anyone come looking for you. But these idiots sitting in the Truck Stop, talking 500 feet, and using 200 watts to do it, are idiots, they are breaking the law, and they deserve to be fined out the wazzoooo!

These guys with excessive power simply have no understanding of how RF works. In their minds, its like mashing the gas and the truck goes faster. Increase the power, your signal goes farther, right? Not necessarily. Double the watts and you're LOUDER. NO. The ratio of "watts" to actual output does not work in a linear fashion. It's been explained before--no need to do it again except to say that it takes 4X a given power to increase the loudness of a received signal at the other end by one measly S-unit. And that is also dependent on other factors at work during the transmission.

The people who think they must have a be-jillion watts to talk to the next truck are simply ignorant of RF, and it is more of a "king on the hill" thing than legimate need. OR it simply substitutes for physical (or mental) inadaquacies they feel they lack, and this is the way they equalize themselves among their peers!:biggrin_25523:
