I was stuck on I55 for over 2 hours because of this... I saw at least 4 lifeflights and 10 ambulances. Im amazed the driver survived the crash.

Ya, it was bad. I saw the bus... Looks worse in person

Have you noticed that many states are installing guard rails around bridge piers? I didn't see any here, and that may have guided this bus away from the abutment. A tragedy none the less.
Big Don Thanks this. -
News said he blew a steer tire and hit the bridge. Said one person died last I read I'm guessing it was the driver. I was lucky enough to get detoured off the exit before and around the accident. Felt bad for everyone else turned around at the scene just to turn around and get detoured at the exit I got detoured at and around.

I didnt see any neither. The support was actually IN the bus.
I unfortunately made it there before they started diverting traffic. Had to use the emergency vehicle turn around to head back north, then take the maze back to I55 -
Typically, guard rail deflectors and median separators are designed to deal with arrant automobiles. Almost impossible to deflect or redirect the energy of an 80,000 lb mass moving at 65+ MPH. All you can do is try and interrupt the movement of such a heavy vehicle. This bus, not terribly heavy, was heavy enough to override the guard rail and was fortunate not to have fell over. I guess since they haven't had any rain, the soil was as hard and supportive as the roadway.

Illinois State Police said the dead passenger was a woman who had been seated in the front upper section of the bus, above the driver -
Yup, now how would a jersey wall stand against it? From what I've seen, not so well. It kills any possible survivors.
