One thing I always liked, and this is probably more for smaller companies, is let your drivers in on how the company is doing as far as other aspects of the business. I always felt valued and part of the company when a higher up would converse with me about different things the company has been doing, this could be multiple different things like seeking new customers, how the finances are, etc. I have mostly been interested in things like that, and caring about the welfare of the company, etc.
Some people maybe be happy being "just a driver", but I like to feel more a part of things, because one thing I know for sure is that 99% of interaction with customers is done by the drivers. I wish more drivers understood this, customers are so important, doesn't matter if it's a brokered load or an account, it's important that we realize that we are the face of the company, we are who the customers see.
I could go on and on, but I'm tired.
What about a company makes them stand out as a good company?

Remember you are not paying me by the hour. Don't waste my time sitting at customers or going somewhere inconvenient to fuel because it saves you money. Don't do something really stupid like turn my truck down to 62mph to save money. If you save money at my expense, I am not gonna care about your company.
Don't make me sit all weekend. If you have no freight where I am at, bounce me to where it is. That is what you would do if you had to pay me to sit all weekend. Don't waste my time if you are not gonna pay for it.simplyred1962 Thanks this. -
Being an intern,
has your mentor answered this question for you ? -
Its a 2 way street , if you want honesty and respect you have to give it as well , think before you yell and threaten the dispatcher and he might actually work with you. If your having a problem , do NOT have your wife or this weeks Girl Friend call the office to call or visit in person.
1 poster wanted to be informed of things , thats good only problem is many drivers cannot keep their mouths shut and being privy to some info in turn actually hurts the company.
Another cares less about the company saving $ , NEWS flash in todays economy those SAVINGS that you seem to think are a direct inconvenience to you are likely saving your job.
Trucking driving jobs are like truck drivers 1,000'a around but the GOOD ones are getting hard to find. -
That's a load of well, you know. Companies ##### about idle time, you don't see them cutting back the a/c at corporate do ya? How about the CEO's fat check? A 10% pay cut for him could buy some APU's for the trucks. How about that multi-million dollar budget for recruiting? Maybe turnover wouldn't be so high if they spent some of that money on their drivers. -
You have your opinion ( it was generalized and might not reflect on WHOEVER hired you ) and I have mine , you have the option if you do not like mine do not read it or respond to it and I will do likewise.

Everybody always worried about the a/c in the office......
FLATBED Thanks this. -
honesty, honesty, honesty did i mention honesty? be truthful with drivers before and after they are hired. and as others have mentioned lose the office mentality that drivers are not from the human species. and better training for office employees. i have been driving since 1979 i have a hard time listening to a 23 year old dispatcher that tells me he knows what hes doing and theres no reason i cant make it from fresno to hunts point in 48 hours.
EZ Money Thanks this. -
