just my opinion, but from what you just wrote, with your attitude, you will be fine. whether it's staying with ffe for the year, or biting the bullet and finding greener pastures. give me a few then check your pms.

    That starving drivers out theory,

pertains to lease operators in most instances.

If you haven't read everything this thread contains, you are doing yourself a huge injustice !

FFE started their school for 1 reason, and 1 reason only.

It was because they couldn't recruit enough new drivers from other driving schools.

The company has been, and still is on shakey ground.

All this information is available in publications you can read on the web.......

Get your cdl, and experience, then look for greener pastures.

I doubt there is much future staying there long term.

well just got a chance to read the financials for Q2 2012 and FFE is in the black. it looks like the cuts they made in Q4 2011 have begun to pay off. Q1 2012 showed the net positive trend, where losses were substantially curbed. Q2 performancs shows net positive margin.

this is a good thing because the ONLY gripe I have is the low cpm they pay drivers. My experience has been good overall. I have never had to call payroll about trips or incidentals that didnt get paid. The equipment is good- it isnt owner operater specs, but they arent beaters, either.

have issues with equip? they get it fixed, no fuss. they treat me with respect and provide the answers to my concerns. it's not all unicorns and rainbows, but overall, i cant complain.

i will overlook cpm for the over all big picture. do they value me as an employee? yes. are the working conditions acceptable to me? yes. is the equipment safe and in good order? yes. Is there the opportunity to grow and expand into other areas of the company? yes.

This has been my overall experience. check back in September when my year is up.

They just yesterday announce renewing the contract with a major client, including rate increase and 10000 additional loads. That may be insignificant in the big picture, but it sure bets going the other way.

the company for me seems to be what they say theres a lot of people thats been here awhile and seem to be running the miles and happy enough because there staying as far as the company financial situation is looking up they are cash positive now while still showing a loss ---- accounting losses not making enough to pay taxes but still making money --- mostly due to equipment upgrades ect. i have talked to quite a few lease operaters and they seem satisfied and making the money --- really havent heard much of starving out the more experienced drivers, what will starve you out if you start demanding stuff and wanting things too much your own way , not making your appointments or trying for too much home time talked to a girl thats been driving for 8 months she drives only during daytime and no more than 8 hrs a day as crazy as it sounds she still getting over 2000 miles a week and she is happy -- i dont like to sit so i want 3000 or more miles a week so we will see how it works out but i drive 11 sit 10 then 11 more till i get were i am supposed to be, i dont useually stop unless for fuel but thats me and call ahead try to get unloaded early and get out make a few extra miles up on your own that way sometimes they will take it a day early and sometimes not but it dont hurt to try the problem i have they have too much time built into the delivery times , i know the reasons why but hopefully i will get with a dm that works with me too --- some of the fuel stops are a little goofy sometimes but they are figuiring in all aspects like the tolls base price of fuel and highway use taxes but i still was going through baltimore tunnel going from zanesville ohio to the yard in burlington --- was a fuel route and by somebody that havent ever been on that sqiggly little line they call I-68 on the map , i will be challenging something like that in the future but will have my homework done with all the economic math done -- and will be polite not arguemenitive about it that added 2 hours on our trip ---i think hometime with they way this company has an effect on your miles too and they tell you that too --- actually they tell you a lot of things of how to make more money but some people dont listen for some reason --- i wont have too much trouble getting drivebys home because of being from ohio --- and i dont mind running the northeast - i never seen the problem up there the traffic really isnt any worse than dallas or houston --- some of the docks are holes and there isnt any truckstops but you can trip plan around that a little

i think if you dig a little you will find some crap on here about ffe or any other company with more than 5 trucks --- well it will be hard to find anybody that actually graduated the school to say anything negative about it--- try some of the other socalled starter companys and compare notes -- they dont seem to pressure anybody to lease a truck and that actually seems like a good deal I think the company does it to have you make a commitment to them after your year is up and to pass on some of the responsibility and costs involved but if both partys hold up seems to work but i would have to do a lot more research on the subject and talk to more drivers that have done it awhile before i would do anything --- well the dm's and planners are not behind bullet proof glass everyone in lancaster seems to do there jobs and safety isnt a joke they are serious about it . the equipment is real good and newer than most and they fix it -- once in awhile you will pick up a trailer with an issue which is more due to the last driver not doing anything about it rather than the company's fault but i havent had any trailers that were junk -- most of the drivers that i have talked too that want to leave is for more hometime or more money not lack of miles or working conditions they have some local and regional or dedicated runs that dont take much time to get -- a guy in my class was hoping to get a local job in kansas city without too long of time going otr he allready got a local ltl route there so it depends on where you live for that i know one guy from texas with 6 months that does regional and is home every weekend and a day or 2 during the week and is making 750 a week minumum --- i was originally worried that when you get close to a year the company might try to starve you out to collect some tuition but havent heard of anything like that happening and its not like you will be making a 10 cent a mile jump in pay after your year --- so if your doing your job its in the companys best intrest economically to retain you -- it does seem like to make the real good money you pretty much have to go the trainer route or the o/o route but i will cross that bridge when i come to it--- so if all you want is a starter company i dont know of a better one --- for myself the intangibles for working here look like will outweigh the extra money so i probly will just stay here
