Why do so many newbies disappear after they hit the road?

I cant tell you how many "expectation adjustments" I gave fellow students. Ive been out 3 months now, but being alone in truck, this might be the only chance I get in a day to socialize with people I (sort of) know. I did my research, knew what to expect, and I'm perfectly happy with my job, but so many people go in expecting the world and it's disappointing when they find out they actually have to work for it.

I also enjoy helping people out and sharing what i've learned so far; its nice to be useful for something other than moving food around the country.

I think you are right Keyster. And it really is a SHAME that they don't stick around and talk about what they ran into. I just might help a prospective trucker to make up his mind if they want to go this route or not.

There is no shame in trying something, and finding that you and it are not a good fit for each other. It is more of a learning experience than a shame.

There have been a few that have fessed up prior to their exodus. They are always saluted for their honesty.

True. And there really are quite a lot who stick around and keep posting.

I think a lot of the ones that just disappear are the ones that get into trucking on a whim and don't stick it out for one reason or another. Coming here was also a whim and they quickly tire of both.

It would be good for prospective truckers if we had a sticky where everyone who didn't stick with it would post as to why. I imagine many of those posts would read something like - yeah, I should have known better but I didn't believe what I read on here and thought it would be different for me.

Well, there is only one thing left to say, quoted from something Ralph Earnhardt once said " They can't put in ya, and they can't take it out"

most people dont make it but also i think people starting out tend me to running alot and are getting used to the solo lifestyle compared to the trainee trainer lifestyle. who knows maybe they are just happy they made it through the day safely without hitting anyoone or anything. i know im happy with that everyday and sometimes you jsut wanna crawl in the rack instead of posting

I still wanna drive after being out nine or ten hours but I'm usually there or at the nearest to there I'm gonna get without having to get stuck on a ramp or at Wally World. Saw a post about this forum needing to become entertaining earlier... I must have lead a boring life because this site is better than Springer some days.

they're not all the same. name maybe. but some are smaller then others and barely have ANYTHING to sell. while others are full blown shopping malls.

heck, even loves has quite a few locations in the truckstop directories. but they aren't truckstops. i've seen 2 that sell fuel. the rest are just plain gas stations with the loves name.

    LOL.
