It's getting old hearing you guys come on here everyday complaining about "brokers are evil" or "brokers offer this or that" ..... maybe you need to take a few business seminars, listen to the few profitable drivers on here that actually make money and don't deal with brokers. The problem is not the brokers, it is your view on how this industry operates. So i'll try to break it down in laymans terms for you...
Company makes product
Company offers the product for shipment
People bid to haul the product
Comapny selects the cheapest offer to haul the product
Company makes lots of money on cheaper transportation
Company gets call from customer that product arrived damaged, not on time, ect ect
Company does not ship with that cheap shipper anymore
O/O sells company themselves and their service.
O/O makes strong contact with other company at the other end of the run
O/O becomes profitable and spends time with family
O/O gets on TTR and hears all the babies crying about not making money and wastes time replying

Aren't you a LandStar lease operator? If not, how many direct freight contracts do you have? Out of those how many did you personally go out and land? Funny how you seem to have it all figured out but you haven't come to realization yet that no one here is forcing you to click on a thread and read it. If you are tired of it, don't click it.Last edited: Aug 6, 2012

Yes, i am a lease operator with LS. I have 0 direct contacts set-up, but I don't need them. I am not the one on here crying every single day about brokers this, and brokers that. I have no reason to get my own authority since I seem to be doing better than the one's on here complaining about rates and brokers. I make plenty of revenue and have figured out how to do this with only 73% coming to me. I am a very good salesman, and i know of 5 customers i could easily get my own authority and go pull for them directly, but i choose not to deal with the hassle, paperwork, insurance and other crap that comes along with it. I have absolutely nothing against anyone who does. I wish I could have your patience to do this, but I just don't.
I also know that nobody is forcing me to come on here and click on a link, I just find it funny that at least once on every page of this thread, there is somebody saying that brokers are bad, evil, take all the money, and won't give me a load for what i want. They blame everybody but themselves for not being able to do better. If you read thru it all, the problem is obvious to anyone with common sense. But yet those who are complaining just can't seem to see it..... while many others do. -
Thing is that TRUCKING is no different than any other business let it be house building , electrical , HVAC or street sweeping. You need to know your costs and what you can work for to stay in business.
Most of the big trucking companies today are working on a 7 to 10% overall profit margin ( thats scary ) and that is who most of us are competing against a lot of the time.
Depending on how you are setup and the $ you have to invest in getting your operation up and running LS is a good deal or you go full blown and set yourself up to cover all the services LS provides.CAXPT Thanks this. -

If i ever get out of Flatbed I can do that..... and if you happen to have 2 dry-bulk tankers sitting around, I can hook you up right away

I'd be all over the tanker job, but the $90,000 a trailer cost keeps me from going at it.
