So how often have you guys gotten a Hotel Room out on the road.
Not counting Truck Breakdowns, or for those that run daycabs.

Me in about 3 years, never.

It depends on how hot it is and how I feel. Sometimes if it is extremely hot out I will get one every night and shut the truck off I can usually find rooms for about what it costs me to idle and especially if I am on a reset or if I am waiting a weekend on the road. If it is extremely cold out and I'm going to let my truck run anyway I will just stay in my truck. So in 11 years I would have to say I've spent hundreds of nights in a room and hundreds of nights in my truck.

Never with an operational APU, yet. If I get stuck spending more than 10 hours and it's really hot, I will not hesitate. When I had to idle before I had an APU, I stayed in one quite often. I always look at the cost of fuel to idle compared to the motel.

For me every once in awhile. Usually it's just to get a bit of a break out of the truck and get to relax in a bed where I can actually roll around and plus my dog loves the room to run.

I used to occasionally get a room, but, it had to be a time and place where I could check in at noon and check out at noon and have a nice restaurant/bar close by with safe truck parking. One thing I hated was checking in at 7 pm and checking out at 7 am.

usually if i have a weekend lay over, if it is cool enough i don't need to idle to keep comfortable all day and night i won't but thats not very often, and during major repairs i get one as the hotels close to the dealers and repair shops offer a cut rate...

other than that if im rollin i don't get one

For non-breakdown I've gotten a hotel in Florida for the weekend once, and whenever I was in Laredo in the summer I'd usually get a room if I knew i'd be there all day. Cheaper than idling and you get a private shower, TV, internet, etc.

I get them pretty regularly, at least a couple times a month. But I don't own or rent a house to go home too, so it's really sort of a lifestyle choice for me. Seems to make more sense than rent or a mortgage right now. Plus I have a little cart and plastic totes and I get my laptop and print/scan set up, got my file cabinet and get all my bookwork caught up.

of course now that more states are going no-smoking on hotels (WI, MI, IN) it's putting a real crimp on me. I won't stay at a non-smoking hotel unless it's doors open to the outside or a room near an exit.
